| Biography Born in Hong Kong, Kalvin Chau was a prize-winner of violin competitions in Hong Kong and was invited to host an RTHK Radio 4 programme introducing Contemporary Music to the general public. In 1996, he became a Student Ambassador of Hong Kong. Under the tutelage of Mr. Fan Ting, he was awarded scholarships to further his studies with Prof. Anne Shih in USA and received his Master of Music degree from the University of Mainz in Germany. During his degree studies, he has extensively pariticipated in masterclasses in North America and Europe, funded by numerous scholarships. He has worked with Prof. Michael Ma, Dr. Mary Wu, Jacques Israelievitch, Juliette Kang, Isabelle Faust, Prof. Denes Zsigmondy, Prof. Viktor Pikayzen, Prof. Daniel Gaede and Prof. Manfred Scherzer. As a dedicated teacher and a member of the European String Teachers Association, he has been teaching violin, viola and chamber music for students of different ages and levels. His students have been prize-winners of the competition "Jungend Musiziert" in Germany as well as the Schools Music Festival in Hong Kong. They are also invited for solo performance in Germany, New York and Hong Kong. With a keen interest in orchestra and chamber music, Chau has performed and recorded in North America and Europe with various ensembles, including the Mainzer Oratorien Orchestra, the Kammerorchester Con Arco and the Bach Ensemble of the Europa Chor Akademie in Germany. In Hong Kong, he has recorded for the RTHK Radio 4 and has held solo recitals at Hong Kong City Hall and St. John's Cathedral. He has also performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. Currently, he is on the faculty of Yew Chung Education Foundation and St.Stephen's College Preparatory School. |
