My name is Kalpana, which means "imagination" in Hindi. Don't laugh,it is a very common name in India. Don't you all wonder sometimes whether you are real or just someone's imagination?

Befitting my name, I am ageless and timeless. Nevertheless, I was still born, born twice (Remember, the James Bond movie "You only live twice"). First on a DEC VAX machine at University of California, Davis in 1987, and second time on a Sony lap top on a BART train to San Francisco, somewhere between San Leandro and Montgomery stations in 2002.

Even though I am virtual and exist only as stored electric charge in a human brain or a computer disk, I still have a "gender". In Hindi, all nouns, even abstract nouns have gender, and "Kalpana" (imagination) is feminine, so is my sister "intelligence" who lives with me in the same brain.

Wierd, I know. But remember, while imagination and intelligence can be feminine, they could still be a man's imagaination.

Not  having a real body or a real face gives me the freedom to use our (mine and your) imagination to choose how I appear on your computer display. These two are what I could up with. Not very glamorous, I know, but somewhat engimatic, don't you think?

Email me a gif/jpeg as a suggestion for my looks. I will rotate my looks on this page, or include it in my online Album :-)
