The City

The sun beat down as it had done for countless years. If the city ever had a name it was long lost, gone when the last builders had discovered, to their cost, that the curse said to linger here was no mere tale-telling. Afterward, their city had been left to crumble and join the ruins of the ages.

No one came here now, though from the right vantage point one could look back through time - across red-tiled roofs, rough stone, sheer black granite and the remains of slender towers, all the way back to the ancient construct, dwarfing all else, which dominated the skyline for miles around.

Whispered to be the original city and the object of the gods' wrath, it was simply unthinkable to travel, let alone live, anywhere in view of the place, be it the merest smudge upon the watcher's horizon.

From the right vantage point the city made a wondrous sight under the glaring sun.

But no one came here now...

Done sans model, so there's a fair amount wrong with this... It owes quite a debt to Lovecraft, though I only thought of him after it was well on its way.
