Chapter 7

The First Family History Book

The Book 'Pallippuram Kallarackal Kadavil Kudumbacharithram'

In the jubilee meeting in AD 1952, a common opinion came up from among all the participants, that to publish a Common history book of Kallarackal Family. The book must include a detailed and compiled history of its more than 300 offshoot branches in and abroad India. The book must be prepared with the joined effort of all branches and sub branches. Since it is an extensive and tiresome job, it is also decided that each individual branche must collect information of their branch.

The details must include the name of person or persons migrated to other places from the family, the place/s from or to where they have migrated, the period of migration, the name of the family from which migrated, and the name of the family after migration and if possible the name of their root family.

There may not be any concrete or clear evidence available of the same. Only available will be the oral evidence of the grandparents in the family. The past, they can narrate from their memory. They can also narrate, what they have experienced and heard from others. They may have hearsay information from their grandparents or elder ones in their generation. The narration of the grandparents may not always be correct, especially the hearsay information.

But we can arrive at a general assessment, if others of the same age or generations testifies or say identically. In tune of the common opinion some branches have made efforts as their own to collect details of thier family history but, later they have felt that it is not a soft nut to crack. Other branches even could not make a start. The difficulty in organising and coordinating all members is the main issue.

Kallarackal Kadavil Family members could collect information of their predecessors from AD 1650. The above said Valiayamathan Kathanar was parish priest in the churches at Vaikom, Palluruthy, Amballoor, Vallakom, Panavally, Kavil and Orsalam. Kochumathan Kathanar was parish priest in the churches at Kanjoor, Kizhakkambalam, Muttom, Vayalar, Kunnumpuram, Chowwara, Kokkamangalam, Kuzhuppilly, Muvattupuzha, and later he joined in the Vincentian Congregation and conduted retreats in many churches and convents in many places.

In all these places Valiyamathan Kathanar had many persons in contact by himself and through Kochumathan Kathanar. By their help he could collect further details of many Kallarackal family members. Also he had the data collected by Kochumathan Kathanar before his death. Thus all the data collected are available in hand in advance and by compiling these information, the 1st history book 'Pallippuram Kallarackal Kadavil Kudumba Charithram' was published on July 16, 1955 by a short time of 2-3 weeks. The publication of this book is a mile stone in the history of the Kallarackal Kadavil Family as well as Kallarackal family and all its branches and sub-branches as a whole. Now all the offshoot branches have a written history right from the Christianisation of their root family in AD 52. They can use this book as a reference for writing history of their branches. On May 1, 2008 its revised edition (AD 1680- AD 2007) was also published by Pallippuram Kallarackal Kadavil Kudumbayogam.
