Chapter 5

Kallarackal Kadavil Family, its branches & Generations 1 to 6

Kallarackal Kadavil is one of the different branches of Kallarackal Family. One ancestor Chacko from the root family Kallarackal, Pallippuram who had 6 sons. One of his sons Vareeth has established the Kallarackal Kadavil Family during the period or around AD 1700. This Vareeth is the 1st generation of the Kallarackal Kadavil Family. The periods based until 4th generation of Kallarackal Kadavil Family (i.e. until AD 1810) are approximate calculations.

During the same period (AD 1700) or a little later, Chacko's another son has established Pallippram Kallarackal Family at Mulamthuruthy. Details of the other 4 sons of Chacko can not be traced out.

Another ancestor Thommen in the root family Kallarackal, whose two sons Varkey and Thommen have settled at Kumarakom and established two branches of Kallarackal Family there ( see family tree). The period can not be identified. These branches are Kallarackal Elanjiparambil Family and Kallarackal Puduparambil Family respectively.

The Kallarackal Kadavil Family has made a study of the history of their family and the root family in the years AD 1950-54 and published their first history book on 16th July 1955, under the leader ship of Rev. Fr. Valiyamathan Kathanar.

It is understood that the 1st generation Vareeth (AD 1674-749 ) of the Kallarackal Kadavil Family had two sons named Varkey (AD 1700-7900 and Chacko ( AD 1717-795). The eldest son Varkey, has established Vathappally Family around AD 1730 and Chacko continnued in the Kallarackal Kadavil Family. They are the 2nd generation of the Kallarackal Kadavil Family. For 110 years (from 1st generation to 4th generation), the predecessors of Kallarackal Kadavil Family have two or three children as their offspring. Only the 5th generation Varkey Varkey 2nd has 10 children. After that in the 7th generation 3-5 members have 10 - 12 children. In the 8th generation a few have 7-8 children. Thereafter most of the members have 3-4 or 1-2 children. So in general, the population in the Kallarackal Kadavil family even after 314 years, is not much in number. It is less than 300, even it has 11 generations.

According to the history said by the Koottunkal Family, in or around AD 1714 one ancestor from the Kallarackal Kadavil Family established Koottunkal Family. Many branches have developed from the Koottunkal Family. Vazhathara Family is one of its branches which has branched out during or around AD 1800 by one Thomman. Puchathali, Kochuparambil, Vadayakkat , Parathara, Uvannath, Thaikkoottathil, Kalathimekkara, Vazhathara thekku, Kalappurakkal, Vazhathara Vadakku, etc. are the sub-branches of the Vazhathara Family. Vazhathara Family is developed from Koottumkal Family. Before the formation Vazhathara Family, many other branches have developed from Koottunkal Family alone. See Vazhathara Family tree

This 2nd generation Chacko in the Kallarackal Kadavil Family had two daughters and one son named Varkey; and they are the 3rd generation in the Kallarackal Kadavil Family. Elder daughter (AD 1760-830) of Chacko is married to Valliyattil Family. She had no children. So she has adopted Chacko the son of her only brother Varkey. Chacko's second daughter (AD 1765-835) is married to Thevarparambil Family, Manjoor. Her grand son's (son's son's) daughter is the mother of Archbishop Mar Agustin Kandathil, Ernakulam.

Chacko's only son Varkey (AD 1770-695) has married one Cicily from the Vayalattu Vellayil Family. This 3rd generation Varkey had 3 children named Chacko (AD 1800-875) , Varkey (AD 1810-885) and a daughter (AD 1812-872) and they are the 4th generation of Kallarackal Kadavil Family. First son Chacko settled with his aunt who is married to Valliyattil Family as her adopted son as said earlier. Second son Varkey continued in the Kallarackal Kadavil Family and he married Anna D/o. Kuruvila Uppupuram, Pallippuram. And the Varkey's only daughter is married to Thayyezhathu, Pallippuram.

The 4th generation Varkey (known as Varkey Varkey 1st) married Anna, D/o. Kuruvila Uppupuram, Pallippuram and has two children named Varkey (known as Varkey Varkey 2nd & Pappy see image) and Cicily (Kunjaamma) and they are the 5th Generation. Varkey Varkey 2nd, married Thandamma, D/o. Tharian Pazhayakadavil Family, Vaikom and his sister Cicily is married to Pazhayakadavil Family, Thalayolaparambu.

Another Varkey (S/o. 4th generation Chacko) who is the 5th generation in the Kallarackal Kadavil Family came back from Valliyattil to Pallippuram, around AD 1860 and established Munduparambil Family.
