Day 3: Baby Sophie and Susan are released from the hospital with a clean bill of health.
Day 4: Her first photo shoot where she hammed it up for the camera.
Day 5: Baby Sophie gets her first taste of the great outdoors at Fairchild Tropical Gardens after Sue's appointment with the OB. Sue is doing fine and we were relieved that she seemed to enjoy herself at one of our favorite spots. She also cried her first tears today which seemed to cleanse her eyes.
Day 6: Baby Sophie discovers the comfort of her thumb and is showing first shifts away from her nocturnal lifestye. She actually stayed awake during the day. A full nights sleep is probabally months away though.
Day 7: We all slept very well last night. Little Sophie only woke up once during the night. We'll see tonight if this was just a fluke.
Day 8: Sleeping is going a bit easier for all of us. Sophie gets to meet her brother Josh who just flew in from Vermont. The two of them were actually seen grooving to the sounds of Jefferson Airplane. Fancy that!
Day 9: A big outing for baby Sophie, the pediatrician's office. All seems well. She is now 20 inches in length and is 6 lbs 5 oz. Apparently it takes 10-14 days to regain birth weight. She likes to play with her red-black-white rattle which was gifted to her by Margaret, Rob and Illiana. It seems to stimulate motor development. She's reached out and grabbed it several times which suggests more than just a chance event.
Day 10-13: The days blurrrr together from within this sleepless stupor. Sophie seems to be turning up the volume, going from lamb like calls to full-fledged cries. Preparations for the holidays!
Day 14: Sophie gets to meet her maternal grandparents for the first time. Sophie catches her first glimpse of a full moon and seems curious with it. It was the full moon of the winter solistice and was unusually bright. Today was her projected due date based on the 40 week, i.e., 10 moon cycle. Seems like an eternity since that blue moon in March.
Day 15: Sophie gets her first trip to Miami Beach to see her cousing Lani. Parking violations were somehow avoided on this day. She has yet to see or feel the ocean. Maybe tomorrow?
Day 16: Christmas eve. Her alertness increases with each day and mine finially seems to be turning around as well. I know see the justification for Paternity Leave, I must have a chat with Congress. In further news, her umbilical stump falls off in the night. It looks like she'll have an OK inny.
Day 17: Christmas day. Santa and a host of friedly little elves were very very good to us all this year. We all went to Uncle Bill's house for the traditional Christmas brunch. She had opportunity to meet many of her new family. She is also fascinated by all the colorful holiday lighting.
Day 18: A quiet day as life slipped into a virtual blurrrr. Too many gourmet meals from Grandpa Stephens skillet must have passed through the mother's milk.
Day 19: For all of you who have worries of the Truman Story movie, if you must know, Baby Sophie is co-author to this document. I'm just trying to translate those cute sounds of hers as best I can.
Day 21: A short trip out to the west coast of Florida puts us in the middle of the traffic jam of the millenium. Yes, we were stuck with all the Phish-heads on their way to party in the Everglades. Little Sophie wanted to check out the show but we didn't have an ample supply of diapers.
Day 23: New Years Eve. 1999 was definately a year full of accomplishments and rewards. The sweetest being the birth of little Sophie Maya.
Day 24: No better way to spend the day than at the beach. It was a calm afternoon at Cape Florida.
Day 26: Another fun outing to Fairchild Tropical Gardens.
Day 27: Sophie sees her older brother Josh off at the airport.
Day 33: No major developments. Things are evolving day by day. She went to Dr. Rydland's office today and checked out A-OK. Sophie is now 8.5 lbs and 21.5 inches.
