History

The story begins nearly ten Turns after Ruth and Jaxom altered the pattern of Thread, and AIVAS has been shut down. A virus spread through the dragons, notably for the first time in history, and so produced strange mutations of colors, which only strengthened the Wings once the dragons recovered. While the whole continent of Pern continues to enjoy prosperity in spite of the Threadfall, many new Holds have sprung up, especially upon the Southern Continent, where the weather is significantly milder (if a bit warmer), and the grubs that have been breeding there for centuries have helped to eliminate the need of full ground crews. One such Hold not only prospered, but grew so significantly in size that it was ridiculous to demand that the Weyr it was under continue to spread itself so thin. And so permission was given for a new Weyr to be designed, capable of holding several fully capable wings and at least three or four Golds. After nearly two years of working with stone, the Crafters managed to accomplish the difficult work of hollowing out the mountain from which the Weyr would be based, and the first dragons moved in. Camaille, being the only Gold willing to transfer (as well as being capable of running a weyr), became Weyrwoman.

For six turns things ran as they should have and Kalikao Weyr prospered.  In the seventh turn of Camailles time as Weyrwoman, plague struck once again.  It infected both dragon and rider, killing many and causing others to become seriously ill.  The Weyrwoman herself fell ill with the plague.  Not being able to continue on in her duties, Camaille was forced to leave the Weyr in order to move somewhere to rest and heal.  A replacement Weyrwoman was brought in from another Southern Weyr, Eleanora of gold Aquitaineth.  It was hoped that Camaille would one day return and that Eleanora would work as a substitute until that day arrived.  As time passed, this option looked less and less likely to occur.  Eventually a cure was found for the cure.  It was quickly dispersed among the Weyrs and Holds.  Kalikaos already depleted numbers helped out with this process.  Six months have now passed.  The Weyrs numbers are much smaller than they once were.  The duties of Weyrwoman have fallen upon Eleanora.  Though they are few in number, the people of Kalikao hope to rise up once more and bring the Weyr back to its former glory.
