Sunsets’ Secrets

By Kali Gargoyle

***

The sun sets down with ruby rays
And the sound of cracking stone.
As night falls over lands of old,
The night holds silence in its tone.
No dogs howl at the bright full moon,
No wolves,
No coyotes,
Or human fools.
Birds don’t sing or chirp tonight
Firebugs have all gone out.
The night is empty, save for one.
A creature of the night, without
Ever seeing the light of day.
Undisturbed by all but a few,
Bold enough to face the fear,
We love the thought of someone new.
