Kaleb's Updates
This is Kaleb's update site. It has updates & milestones that he's reached & when he reached them. It also has information on
what's going on with us as well. Enjoy reading & make sure to sign the guestbook on his home page!

01/23/03: Kaleb had his 9 month check-up today, his yeast infection is clearing up nicely & all
he has left is the runny nose. He's probably lost close to 1 pound with being sick.
Dr. Stevenson was overall very happy with his growth & was suprised that he is now
'cruising'. He now weights 16lbs, 7oz, his head circumference is 17" & he is 29" long!
He, of course, has been giving me kisses alot with that snotty little nose!
01/21/03: Poor Kaleb is still sick. We brought him into the hospital as he has developed a
really red raw area on his bum. Turns out it's a diaper area yeast infection so now
he's on a cream to clear that up. He's still crabby & he gave the flu to Jay on 1/19
& now I'm coming down with it!
01/19/03: Kaleb is now 9 months old & has his first sickness - the flu! He started with a runny
nose, coughing & vomiting on Friday, added the fever of 101.7 on Saturday. Today
his fever has broken but now he has diarrhea. Poor thing!
01/08/03: Okay, I spoke WAY too soon about the other top tooth that I guessed would take
another week or 2 to pop out. I was brushing Kaleb's teeth tonight & it's out! This
little kid is full of surprises! He's such a wonderful teether. They just pop through
without much fussing, etc. So now he has a total of 4 teeth. His 2 on top & 2 on
the bottom in front!
01/06/03: Once again, I haven't had time to do some updates until now. We were all VERY busy
over the holidays. Kaleb's Nana flew to Phoenix from Maine to spend 2 weeks over
Christmas with Kaleb (and us). He was a very busy boy during this time! We got
his 8 month weight & height. He is about 17.5lbs & is 27.5 inches long. On 12-26,
he started saying 'mama' & now he babbles constantly. He also got his first haircut
on the same day! I was SO sad. He really does look like a cute little boy now &
doesn't look so baby-ish now (is that a good thing?!?!). We also discovered a 3rd
tooth coming in on 12-30! It is the front upper tooth on the right. The left side is
now swollen & that front tooth will probably break through within the next week or so.
Kaleb also plays his version of 'patty-cake'. If you hold out the palm of your hand &
say 'patty-cake' he'll slap your hand with his open palm. He definitley shows a
preference for using his right hand (yes I know it is too early to say he's right-handed
but he really does use it more)!
12/11/02: I have finally found time to update his site after almost 2 weeks. He's a growing &
learning little boy! He is cruising now. He stands up on something & walks while he
has a good hold of it & then will grab onto another piece of furniture & move along.
He is also learning to climb the baby gate! He holds onto the top & puts his feet in
the little holes & climbs! We're going to get a different kind of gate that he can't
climb. He also has 2 new games. 1) If you stick your tongue out at him, he'll stick
his out & you'll just go back & forth as he laughs! 2) He'll say 'ha' (though it sounds
more like a mix of a cough & laugh), & you'll say 'ha' back. He'll do it again & so on.
He really likes these repetition games!
11/20/02: Kaleb turned 7 months old yesterday! I figure he weights about 15.5lbs & is
approximately 26.75 inches long (just a growing little boy!). He was a VERY
cranky baby all weekend long & has now developed 'separation anxiety'. If he looses
sight of me, he starts crying. He does this even if Jay is holding him. He'll do the
same with Jay when he drops him off at his parents' house. On Tuesday, I was
trying to do a load of laundry. I had gotten up off the floor in his room to go put a
load into the dryer (which is just outside his room in the hallway). Well, Kaleb starts
crying & crawls out of his room into the hallway towards me & then plants himself on
his butt screaming until I picked him up. It was really quite pitiful! He is back to
his normal self today (he was VERY cranky from Friday night until this morning & was
only happy when I was holding him - no one else), he did get a little upset when he
lost sight of me this morning before I distracted him with a toy so I could leave. Jay
also told me that his Dad was holding Kaleb & Jay went behind the TV to fix something
& once Kaleb lost sight of him he started to cry. Too cute (though it won't be in
another couple of weeks)!
11/14/02: Well....Kaleb stood up on his own with no support for a few seconds today. Last
night he pulled himself up so he was standing(by grabbing onto the poor dog, of course),
he then let go of her, wobbled for a few seconds & then crashed down on his butt.
He stood again this morning. He crawled over to where I was sitting, pulled himself
up & was hanging onto my knees & he let go. Same thing, he wobbled for a few
seconds & then fell. We think he may be walking by 10 months, but who knows!
I've been trying to get him to talk, so I hold him & say 'mama', 'dada', & 'nana'
over & over to him. Of course the only response I get is a big grin & a laugh or
squeal out of him. He thinks it's the funniest thing to hear me say 'mama' over &
over again! He has been coughing a little, mainly in the mornings. He feels & acts
fine so I don't know if he's coming down with a cold or not. Just have to watch him!
11/03/02: No more new teeth coming through yet. Just still has the bottom two. He is
developing a diaper rash on his little bum from all the new solids we've been feeding
him. So - he gets to 'air-dry' as much as possible for the next few days until it
disappears. He's still crawling all over things & if you're standing, he'll crawl over to
you & pull himself up on your pant-legs until he's into a standing position!
10/31/02: Kaleb had a little idea for giving us a 'trick or treat'. His 'trick' was to be fussy
with Jay in the morning & early afternoon. His 'treat' was that he had his 2nd tooth
come in on the bottom! No wonder he was a little fussy!
10/28/02: Kaleb's a pretty speedy little guy with crawling. Within a few seconds he's across the
room! He's also learned how to sit up all by himself from his crawling position. The
tooth is still working it's way through. He's still not really cranky. Such a fun &
good little baby! (what's that saying about lightning doesn't strike twice?) He started
a new thing tonight. I had him in his crib while I straightened & cleaned his room a
bit. I looked over & he was pulling himself up by using the bumper & crib railing!!!!
I ran & got the camera really quick to snap some photos which are on his photo page.
Darn - there's just no stopping him now, is there?!?!?! He'll be pulling himself up on
other things & cruising or walking in no time!
10/25/02: Lots of updates lately! Kaleb is now officially crawling. He has learned that he needs
to move his hands & his legs to get moving! Smart little thing! We also noticed late
tonight that he has cut his 1st tooth!!! You can just see the very top of the whole
tooth on his lower gum. You can feel it easier than seeing it as when you get his mouth
open to look, he just sticks his tongue out at you! He really hasn't been too cranky
lately either so this is a surprise!
10/24/02: Kaleb had his 6 month Doctor's appointment with Dr. Stevenson. She's very happy
with how he's growing & very surprised with how mobile he is for his age. He weighted
14lbs 2oz, is 26.25" long & his head circumference is 16.25". She did let me know
that he does have a slight heart murmur that we'll just keep listening to as he grows.
10/23/02: Kaleb has stopped nursing. He is completely refusing by clamping his mouth shut &
turning away. He only wants a cup, bottle, jar or spoon. I don't blame him as I did
not have too much to give him since my supply has gone away since I returned back to
work full-time in August. It was time for both of us though & I am dealing with it
(though it does make me sad as I had hoped to nurse him till he was 12 months).
10/19/02: Kaleb is 6 months old & continues to amaze me with everything he does. He's gotten
alot better with sitting up on his own & is learning how to get himself into the sitting
position from his hands & knees. We gave him his 1st 'biter biscuit' on the 16th & he
LOVED it! Very messy though. He also likes Cheerios (though I think that the dog
gets most of them). Today he got his first taste of strained baby food. We started
with sweet potatoes. I figured he might only take half a jar before he got tired of it
but he ended up eating the whole jar (and then a 4oz bottle)! He's doing really well
with solids. He eats 3 times a day & has a 'snack' of Cheerios mid-morning and then
some juice once he wakes up from his afternoon nap before dinner.
10/06/02: He's certainly doing alot of new things lately! His new thing is giving me 'kisses'. He
grabs my face with both hands & comes at me with an open mouth. Needless to
say, I get soaking wet & he squeals in delight. Jay has also taught him how to
'zerbert' with an open mouth. He doesn't do this stuff to Jay because of the
rough stubble on the face. Kaleb also wants to taste anything that I'm eating or
drinking.
10/05/02: Kaleb was able to sit up by himself, unassisted today for about 15-30 seconds! I
quickly snapped a photo of it & it's posted for 10/5/02.
10/03/02: Kaleb has found his voice! He just plays & screeches, etc. It's really funny but he's
REALLY loud!
09/19/02: Well, Kaleb's now 5 months old! He seems to be growing like a weed too! His newest
thing is to get up on his hands & knees & rock back & forth. He does this until
he gets enough momentum going & then throws himself forward a few inches onto
his belly. Then he gets up & does it all over again. He even wakes up in the
morning & does this in his crib! It's just his way of getting around. I'm sure
that crawling isn't too far behind!
09/13/02: Maji's lab results came back negative for cancer which is good news. She does have
some sort of infection (like Mastitis) - which is very rare in spayed dogs. She
will have to go back in 2 weeks for another exam. The vet wants the infection to
be gone before she feels for a lump as a benign mass may still be in there & may
still require surgery.
09/10/02: Maji had to go to the vet today as last night I noticed a big swelling on one of her
mammary glands. She had the same thing last year but this one is bigger. She
went to the vets & it looks pretty bad. She's leaking blood out of the nipple &
it's very swollen & infected. They gave her antibiotics & pain medication for the
next 2 weeks to see if the swelling goes down. It may be cancer. They also
drew some blood so we'll see what that comes back with in the next few days.
Just a real bad time for this to come up as it cost me $200.00 today & we just
can't afford it right now. Oh well, hope she gets better in the next 2 weeks!
09/09/02: Today was a sad day for me. I packed away all of Kaleb's 0-3 month clothing. Yes,
he's finally outgrown them & moved into the 3-6 month clothing. I didn't realize
that he had so much 3-6 month clothing. I just need to start getting the 6-9mo!
09/05/02: Kaleb had his 4 month check-up today. He got 2 shots & wasn't too happy about it!
No tears, just crying! He is 24.5 inches long & weighs 13lbs!!!! I, unfortunately,
have to find a new pediatrician as the one we use doesn't accept Jay's health
insurance. He went to our family physician today for his shots & I can't put him
on my insurance until the new year (which his pediatrician does accept). I'm quite
sad about it 'cause I really like that office - they're always so nice & always
make a fuss over him (the doctors more than the nurses!)
09/03/02: Well, we finally got this website up & running. Hope everyone likes it! Also, it was
a year ago today that we let everyone know the good news....that Jay & I were
going to have a baby!
09/01/02: A year ago today, Jay & I found out that we were going to have a baby (after
taking 3 different at-home pregnancy test - hey, I wanted to be sure before I
went to the doctors' office for a pregnancy test).
08/31/02: Well....Kaleb laughed out-loud for the first time today. It was a chuckle rather
than just a squeal. I got him to do it while 'zerberting' his bare belly after he
had his bath.
08/26/02: Jay & I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary!
08/24/02: Kaleb rolled over from his belly to his back. (according to Jay....I still have yet to
see him do it though)
08/19/02: Kaleb J turns 4 months old!
08/18/02: First food introduced besides breast milk. He got his 1st taste of rice cereal. He
gets about 1-2 ounces of cereal & then drinks about 6 ounces of formula or nurses
before he goes to bed at about 7:30-8pm.
08/05/02: He's now sleeping quite long through the night. About 10-12 hours!
08/02/02: Well, while watching me, he has learned to blow very wet 'razz berries'!
07/27/02: Kaleb can roll over from his back to his tummy!!!
07/26/02: Kaleb slept through the night for the 1st time! He slept for 7 hours straight. Yay!
07/24/02: Kaleb & I flew from Maine to Phoenix. Very long flight but he was an angel!
07/20/02: Kaleb had his photo professionally taken at my Dad's wedding!
07/19/02: Kaleb turned 3 months old!
07/17/02: Kaleb, me & his Nana went to the hospital where she works to weight him. He
weighted 11lbs, 4oz & was 23 inches long!
07/11/02: Kaleb took his first airplane ride! He flew all the way from Phoenix, AZ to
Portland, ME. He was a complete angel the entire time & didn't cry one bit for
that long almost 6 hour flight!
06/20/02: Kaleb had his 2 month well visit at his pediatrician with Dr. Seitter. He also got
his 4 2 month vaccinations! :-( He weighted 10lbs, 5oz & was 21.5 inches long.
06/19/02: Kaleb turned 2 months old
06/16/02: Jay celebrated his 1st ever Fathers Day. We all brought Kaleb out to his 1st Major
League Baseball game! We watched the Arizona Diamondbacks win 11-2 against
the Detroit Tigers. Even though it was very loud & noisy....Kaleb took a nice
hour nap in the middle of us scoring!
06/04/02: I had to return back to work full time.
06/02/02: I celebrated my 27th Birthday with Kaleb & Jay!
05/26/02: We all took a trip out to Canyon Lake for a little lunch/picnic.
05/24/02: Kaleb cracked his 1st of many smiles to me while I was changing his diaper.
05/19/02: Kaleb turned 1 month old!
05/16/02: Kaleb had his newborn follow-up exam. He weighed 8lbs, 1oz! He gained almost a
full 2lbs in less than a month!
05/12/02: I celebrated my 1st Mother's Day with my little bundle of love.
05/09/02: Kaleb got his 1st full bath (not just a sponge bath) & LOVED it!
05/06/02: Kaleb's umbilical cord stump fell off & he now has a belly button (an innie). We
actually noticed this little dark thing on the carpet after we had changed you
and dressed you for bed. This was around 10:30pm.
05/01/02: Kaleb's Nana left to fly back to Maine.
04/23/02: Kaleb had his 1st doctor's visit. He weighed 7lbs. In less than a week...he gained
back his birth weight & then some....instead of loosing it!
04/23/02: Kaleb's Great-Grand Nana flew back to Maine.
04/21/02: Kaleb & I went home from the hospital. Kaleb weighted 6lbs, 9oz & I was VERY,
VERY sore & tired since we had a very bad night the night before in the hospital.
04/19/02: Kaleb Joseph Forgues was welcomed into this world by his Mommy, Daddy, Nana,
and Mommy's doctor, Dr. Torjusen, and nurses. He was born at Desert
Samaritan Hospital in Mesa, AZ. He was born at 6:40am, was 6lbs, 13oz,
was 19 inches long & had a 13 inch chest & 13 inch head. We had checked into
the hospital at 12:20am & I was already, surprisingly, already 8cm along (surprising
as I wasn't that uncomfortable & could still talk through contractions fine).
04/18/02: My due date! My mother, grandmother & I all went for about a 2 mile walk that
morning since it was so nice out. My Mom & I then went out looking for some
quilting materials & patterns. I wasn't feeling that great as the very top of
my tummy was hurting. Then, around 4pm I started feeling some very light
cramping down low. Yup, that was the start of my labor!
04/15/02: My Mother, the Nana-to-be, & my Nana, the Great-Nana-to-be, arrived in
Phoenix. Kaleb (in my tummy) & I drove to Sky Harbor Airport to pick them up.
They were so excited to see me & my HUGE stomach!
