You may pick your project for this class - so it would be a good time to pick up your patterns. The only stipulation I make for patterns is that I ask it be an "easy" pattern if you have never sewn before. Most patterns have a classification and will have Easy - or make it an hour or two etc. written on the pattern envelope.
I have found McCall's and Simplicity to have the most understandable instructions.
Here is a link with some info on how to choose a pattern and fabric. Overview of the 4 week class
Week 1: I will show you how to thread your sewing machine and explain how it works, I will also talk about measurements. You will come prepared to cut out your project. I will demonstrate the how and whys - with some minor pattern alteration adjustments. Then it will be your turn to cut out your project. NOTE: if the fabric you are sewing on is to be washed after the construction is completed - then you should wash your fabric in the same manner before coming to this class.
Week 2: I will demonstrate sewing techniques - stay stitching, sewing darts, facings, and seams. You will then begin to work on your project. This is when you will need to bring your sewing machine.
Week 3: I will demonstrate sewing techniques - zippers, setting in sleeves, easing and gathering, and collars. You will then work on your project.
Week 4: I will demonstrate sewing techniques - buttons and buttonholes, and hems. You will work on your project.

Sewing Machine - please -
bring your own machine to class (week#2) It is easier to learn on one
that you will be using than to transfer from one to another. If you do
not have a machine, let me know so I can make sure there is a loaner in
working condition.
