`KALAPPAI’ continues  the “GUIDE”

The first edition of the N.S.W. Tamil Guide was published in 1997, and more than 3000 copies were printed and distributed, free of cost.  This informative booklet was originated by the Sydney University Tamil Society (SUTS) in order to satisfy the need for a comprehensive and easy-access list of the various Tamil Business Houses and Services of Sydney.

The efforts and dedication of numerous volunteers continued, and brought out the Tamil  Guide for the year 1998;  and later for the year 1999(Supplement).  Our valuable service has been reflected by the benefit enjoyed by the Advertisers and Service Providers, and the response shown by the  readers who had utilised the ready information made easily available to them by the Tamil Guide.

Ambition grows with success” goes the saying!

We  are inspired by their success, and  we continue our dedication by venturing to prepare (in 2002) an edition for the years 2003/4.

This booklet, as you are aware, serves hundreds of business establishments who advertise their products; and services provided by numerous service centres.  The effect of this service could be assessed by the magnanimous response received from the readers.  Looking at the other side of the publication, you will appreciate that much time, concerted effort and extensive research have been the ingredients supplied by our worthy volunteers.  We  also appreciate the support and encouragement afforded to us towards publishing the Tamil Guide over the last  six years.

The Third (complete) edition of the Tamil Guide, now in your hands, contains some additional information which will be found useful to the readers, as well as to the providers thereof.  The second edition & the supplement editions for the years 1998 & 1999 brought out 5000 copies which were distributed (free) to Tamils in NSW

Our service to the Tamil Community in Australia in general, and that in N.S.W. in particular,  has been enhanced by our other initiatives  to promote study of Tamil  among Tamil children;  to publish a literary Tamil Magazine (Kalappai) and to support Universities back in our Tamil homeland.

In our anxiety to expand our services to the Tamil community, we have attempted to expand our publication by making it even bigger and more comprehensive and up-dated.

We are proud to say that the `Tamil Guide’ is the only directory, published by and for Tamils in Sydney, NSW. The support extended to us by our readers as well as the Advertisers and Service Providers is very much appreciated, without which support, our effects in bringing out this Guide would prove fruitless.
