Salzburg, Austria
Salzburg is a really cool city, completely full of music and art. Mozart was born there, and if that doesn't say it all, I don't know what would. Everywhere you went there were craft booths selling things and street musicians and everything was centered around that kind of stuff. It is also where the movie Sound of Music was filmed! We went on the Sound of Music tour so there are a bunch of pictures of that kind of stuff, too!

This is the hotel we stayed in, on a side street in downtown Salzburg.
This is the street our hotel was on, also where a big group of punks (literally) liked to hang out until 3 or 4 in the morning each night, haha.
This is from the main square in Salzburg, called Mozartplatz. To the right is a little cafe, and the Salzburg castle is up on the hill in the middle.

In this picture you can see more of the outdoor cafe, and the building with the green dome and two towers is the Salzburg Cathedral. The red marks are from the security at the airport, we think. Or else Rite Aid had photo problems. Maybe both.

It's Mozart himself! This is a statue in the middle of the square.

A pretty statue near the cathedral.

A picture of the alter in the cathedral, I messed with the properties as much as I could, but in a huge place like that it's hard to get a clear picture. It's very very beautiful, though.

The front of the cathedral, it was taken at a weird angle, but this is only the top half, since the building is so huge there was no where to stand in order to capture the whole thing.

Here, on the side of the street, some guys are playing chess. With really big pieces and a cement board! It thought it was really neat. And yes, that IS my brother sitting on the left.

To the side of the main square was this graveyard, very dark and beautiful with ornate gravestones and decorations. The scene near the end of the Sound of Music where they are hiding is based on this graveyard, though it was not actually filmed here.
Speaking of the Sound of Music, here are the pictures from the tour...
This is the building used for the back of the VonTrapp house. Yes, they used two different buildings for the front and the back. I like the way this picture is framed with the trees, too, and the reflections in the water, especially since the house is so far away.

This is a church in a town near Salzburg where the wedding scene of the Sound of Music was filmed. Though it doesn't look it, it's mostly gothic-style and oh-so-pretty inside.

The Mirabell gardens in Salzburg, where five of the scenes in Sound of Music were filmed.

The main fountain.
![]() |
Okay, this part HAS to look familiar. It's the pegasus fountain and the steps that the children and Maria were singing to after being on the mountain!

A closer picture of the steps... "When you know the notes to sing..."
"...You can sing most anything!" From above the steps, go watch the movie and you'll see what part I'm talking about, it's great!
And so that's the end of Austria, as well as the end of the pictures from my trip. If you wanna see more stuff from Europe or hear random stuff about what we did, just ask and I can ramble a lot. I'm definately going to go back to most of these places, as well as many new ones, and maybe even live there someday! Hope you enjoyed my pictures! ^_^
