Perfect Blue

by Saiyijin Prince

Synopsis
As Mima Kirigoe now sets out on her own after leaving her chart-topping pop group Cham to try her self and an actress, she’ll discover the nightmare of being an idol.  After landing a job on a sexually charged murder mystery, she discovers a website than describes every intimate details of her everyday life.  Her life began to slowly fall apart where she cannot tell the difference between hallucinations and reality anymore and quickly descended into a dangerous state of paranoia.  Now afraid, not even sure of what is real or not, as she helplessly watches as a mysterious stalker threaten and kills her associates and friends.  For Mima, is this the price she is willing to pay for fame?  Does she have the strength to wake up from this nightmare?

Video
Though the art of this movie is not filled with detail and visual effects, I think it’s still great, nonetheless, where the movie is more focused on character and plot development.  Since Perfect Blue is more of a thriller, not many visual effects are needed, though there are some bits of action throughout the movie, which I thought was great.  The visual effects for the scenery and motion of the characters were seem less and fluid.  The quality is very good; the picture is crisp, clear and has no distortions whatsoever, in my opinion, one of Manga’s better works.

Audio
The audio was great, the soundtrack which you hear in the beginning of the movie is pretty cool and the sound effects also went together great.  The background music also fitted well with the mood and really matched up with the feeling it’s supposed to give of.  I didn’t have any complaints with the audio and couldn’t find anything wrong with it.  I thought it was great both subbed and dubbed.

Packaging
This is one of Manga’s better releases, in my opinion.  There are no errors on the DVD, I thought the cover art is pretty cool, and it also comes with a cool insert inside the case.  The menu is pretty impressive and is filled with special features like an interview with director Satoshi Kon, voice actor interviews, musical photo gallery, and behind the scenes performances and many more.

Personal Opinion
When watching this movie, be sure to pay close attention through out the whole movie, it requires much attention to understand what’s going on.  Perfect Blue is one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve seen and would definitely recommend this to anyone one who like shows that’s fill with mystery, symbolism, and deep psychological ideas and thought.  It has a great script with an interesting plot and great directing, which I thought was well thought out and planned.  It would definitely take you on a thrill ride like none other and have you guessing throughout the whole movie with an ending you wouldn’t guess. ^_^

P.S. Perfect Blue contains graphic violence, nudity, and adult language and is for mature audiences only.
