Hellsing

 by BloodLegacy

Synopsis
In the name of God impure souls of the living dead shall be banished into eternal damnation, AMEN. That is what Hellsing stands for. A secret organization made solely for the purpose of destroying any undead being on the face of the earth. The irony is that an actual vampire is the secret and strongest weapon the organization has. Alucard, no life king, the strongest vampire to have ever existed (or so the series hints), is a major factor why this series is so great, and fun to watch. Imagine the worst, most brutal monster, who enjoys killing, who enjoys taking up challenges even if the odds are against him, doesn’t stop smiling and smirking, looks like a man who can have any chick he wants, holds two of the most awesome guns ever thought of, who wears a pair of yellow sunglasses a deep red trench coat, and you have Alucard. Throw in an equally insane Catholic priest, an ex-cop-now-vampire-who-doesn’t-drink-blood sidekick girl, the coolest battler you can imagine, and a frustrated female boss that yells “SEARCH AND DESTROY”, and u got yourself and excellent cast of characters to create an amazing series.

Video
The series starts out with some great animation, everything looks excellent, the characters, the clothes, the lightning, everything was made with precision, and with great artistic style. Though in the second episode there are parts that show that not enough effort was put into the animation, and artwork, and at points the characters look as if an amateur made them. Still the series look’s very well drawn at its most part.

Audio
The sound was excellent in the series. The sound effects were very well timed, and combined with an excellent soundtrack, which makes you shake your head at its music. Both Japanese and English voices used are very well selected, and its one of the few series which I like the dubbed version as much as the subtitled one.

Packaging
All the DVDs for the series are out, and the box set is out also. The covers of the DVD look really good in my opinion, the only bad thing is, which isn’t really a big deal, there are some typos of the names of the episodes in some of the booklets that show the chapters of each DVD. The menus of that each DVD has are different from one another, and each one looks really cool, and the coolest feature for me has to be how you transfer from one menu to another. What they have is like a blood wash, which just covers the current menu you have and then washes off revealing the menu u wanted to go to.

Personal Opinion
If you’re looking for a series with a deep and involving plot line, then this series is not for you. If you like cute/romance series, this series isn’t really for you either. Now if you’re looking for a series with style, excellent characters, gore and violence, great fighting scenes, and a great soundtrack, then this series is definitely for you. I enjoy this series even more each time I watch it, this series is mostly based on the characters it shows in my opinion. The one complaint that I have, and a lot of other fans of the series have, is that it was too short. There have been rumors that a second season might come out, and most of those rumors have been proven false, but a new light is shed into the mystery with the announcement that Dark horse acquired the rights for the Hellsing manga in the United States. People from Gonzo say that there might a consideration of a second season once the manga is finished, the only problem was that there weren’t enough references between the anime and manga. Never the less it’s an excellent very much worth its money, regardless if a second season is coming out or not.
