Ah! My Goddess

 by Saiyijin Prince

Synopsis
This story takes place sometime between what happens in the series, Kiechi and Belldandy are happy together but not married, and Urd and Skuld are there with them.  The movie starts out with a mysterious angel releasing an exiled god, Celestine from a prison on the moon, though his objectives are not clear it will later be revealed.  It turned out that Celestine was Belldandy’s mentor but was banished for trying to destroy the goddess system and now he is back planning to finish what he had started.  He appeared one night before Belldandy and Kiechi, Belldandy having no clue what he is trying to do or what he had attempted, welcomed him with open arms.  He then kissed her, which gave her a virus that made her faint and loose her memory of everything that happened since she had been with Kiechi.  Now they have to find a way to try to cure Belldandy and also to stop Celestine from destroying the goddess system as well as our reality.  Celestine by using Belldandy activated a program the will destroy everything, Skuld and the others have very little time to save the world and try to return things back to normal.

Video
The animation and the art in the movie was very well done, I thought it is far superior to the art of the series.  There are very fine details in the faces, hair, and the clothing.  The visual effects ware very good, the movement of the characters, their hair, and clothing were smooth and fluid and at certain points the effects were amazing. There are some battles scenes and CG scenes that show off the amazing visual effects of the movies.  The DVD quality is top notch and there are very few things that I could say except that you have to see it for yourself to see to see what I’m talking.

Audio
Just like the video, I thought the audio was very well done.  The voices are the same from the series which I’m glad and also thought that the voices for the new characters fit very well.  The audio effects synched well and matched what is happening is you really feel it, especially with 5.1 Surround Sound^_^  I only thought that the synching while Bell and others were singing which happened various times during the movie could have been better synched but it’s really nothing that’s noticeable unless you pay close attention.  There is a pretty nice and easy-going soundtrack, which was sung during the movie and other than some of the singing, I thought the audio was great.

Packaging
The DVD comes with a very cool holographic slipcover that shows Bell in her original costume spreading her wings.  The DVD case is white and has the same cover and back, as the slipcover but is still cool.  There is also some very cool art inside the case and also on the disc.  I thought the menu was all right, it starts off with the CG part of the movie that follows through into the main menu and there are some cool features as well.  Besides the same ole wide screen, Dolby digital, etc. etc. it also comes with the first episode of Adventures of Mini Goddess, and an art gallery.

Personal Opinion
Ah! My Goddess is a great movie, in my opinion. You don’t have to see the series to understand the movie and that was how I saw it.  This movie was one of my first DVDs I ever bought and I still find it enjoyable.  What attracted me most was the art and animation, which I thought was amazing and glad that I had bought it.  It also has an interesting plot and is very different from the series.  It is a little darker than the series and has a bit of some very cool battle scenes where were awesome.  The show is very easy going except certain points where things turn dark and sad but overall it is a light hearted and happy anime that you’ll enjoy, if not for the story then just the animation.
