On Sunday, July 9, 2000, I traveled to Nelson Bay, NSW. After attending a church service, my friends Esther, Annie, Phillip, Minu, and I drove to the bay to spend a day relaxing by the water. It was freezing when we left Richmond at 6 AM so we were all wearing sweaters and heavy coats. They day turned out to be beautiful, we went to a local shop to purchase tourist clothes--hence the funny hat. :)

The guys wanted to go fishing, so Esther, Annie, and I just lounged around. We saw a notice board advertising whale watching expiditions and all agreed that we had to go. We were only on the water for about 10 minutes when the captain spotted the sprays of two humpback whales. Unfortunately, three other ships were already making their ways toward the pair, so he decided to search for our own pod. I'm glad he did.

We ended up finding a pod of five humpback whales and followed the group for around three hours. The whales put on a wonderful show for us.

During the voyage, the whales did tricks like the 'tail show' above.
