The Blue Mountains

On July 11, 2000, the International Programs Unit sponsored a trip to The Blue Mountains. We left campus around 8:30 AM and drove 2 hours west of Richmond. The day was wonderful. Our first stop was Wentworth Falls. We hiked down a trail that led to a lookout point to the Falls.

After leaving Wentworth Falls, we drove another 30 minutes to Katoomba. Katoomba is considered the main tourist town of the Blue Mountains, and I can understand why. It is absolutely beautiful. The group was given 1 1/2 hours to explore and eat lunch. I decided to explore first. I set out with two Norwegian students, Miriam and Glenn. We stopped first at Echo Point to get a look at the Three Sisters.

We hiked around that area for another hour and then decided to eat lunch. After that, it was time for the group to move on. We drove to another area of Katoomba and decided to take a bushwalk through a rainforest. It was an hour long hike down the side of the mountain, but we had spectacular views of Katoomba Falls along the way. We rode the Scenic Railway back to the top and then headed home.
