| How do I get published? First, have your works completed and ready to be placed on the desk of the editor. You may have worked on the piece for months or years, but a good editor can tell if a work is a first draft or a final. Secondly, research the market so you will know who you should submit to. See what types of pieces editors have published and ask youself "Will my work fit in here?" Then, study the guidelines closely and present your works just as the guidelines stipulate. Lastly, perseverance, endurance, and a never-ending supply of optimism. If you sincerely believe that your works are noteworthy, then you should have no problem being the sole champion of your works. Your job is to convince the editor that they should champion your works too. And though you may encounter rejection after rejection it is also your job to keep on pushing for success. As quoted from the film GalaxyQuest, "Never give up...never surrender." |

| What is the typical editor looking for? Most editors look for fresh, original ideas that are not only profitable but encourage the reader's mind to grow. Basically, they would ask the artist "What about your work is so special?" You have to provide the answer. Your work should convey it in a way that is clear, concise, and organized. They also look for artists who pay explicit attention to guidelines. Submissions are often rejected because they do not adhere to the guidelines. However, if you have the works but don't know how to present them, try going to William Shun's Proper Manuscript Format. Not only does the site show you examples of how to format your manuscript but also gives you information on how to create that format within each example. |
