| Lesson Eleven |
| Subject: Lesson Eleven: Hand & Hip Combinations Hand & Hip Combinations Being able to move the body in combinations is very important to the belly dancer. It allows her to show fuller lines, and accent her movements. Hands and hips very often work together for this effect. Basic combo: Doing a hip drop or contract with a foot kick on the second drop/contract. Placing one hand at the temple, and the other hand in front of the body change the position of the arms with each hip drop/contraction. This move is best done if facing a diagonal so the audience may see. Start slowly, and work your way up to a faster pace. Hand Drop combo: Do a basic hip drop, place both hands flat palms toward the floor, in front of and beside the hip doing the work. On the first drop, bring the hands down slightly, on the second, bring them down more, then repeat. This gives the illusion that the drops are at different depths. Hip Twist while traveling: while traveling, twist the hip forward and back. Place the hand opposite the hip bing showcased up by the temple. The other hand is held in front of the body (or the direction the body is going in) with the palm flat facing the floor. The hand moves opposite the hip. This is usually a staccato move, and is very sharp. |
