Creating my own combinations and my > own dances seems to be my greatest challenge and I'd > welcome any input on the subject! Well the first thing I do,I have to have music that inspires me. Then I listen to it over and over and over, in the car, while cleaning house, etc. This lets me pick up little nuances of the song. Then, I just kinda free-stlye dance to it and see what my body wants to do. If something feels right and works with the music, I do it! If I start running out of ideas, or go dry, I will do one of two things. I will go to my little reciepe box where I have written out combination moves and steps and pick steps from it. If that doesn't inspire me, I watch other dancers--on video, and see what I like that can be adapted to my dance. Another thing I do is I will take old dances I have done, and revamp them with input from my students, and myself. This allows some really great and intritricate dances that way. This seems to be because we (the students & I) are comfortable with the steps and combinations that we can work with them and intrpret the music MORE, and start adding all the moves to the more subtle aspects of the music. I also have no problems with fussion..I watch Dance Sport on Goodlife and ice skating, and take inspiration from these things and others as well. |
