As a social worker working in the hospital, I find that we are very underpaid for our job. Social workers are not valued as a profession to some organizations like hospitals. The Social Work Profession is being phased out and Case Management is phasing in. Although, Social Workers are currently performing the same job duties as a Register Nurse in a Case manager’s position, our salaries are extremely different.

Why is this?
I think that the NASW should advocate for this issue because a social worker is a valued profession. We need to advocate for organizations like hospitals to value our profession. Social Workers need to be compensated with a salary that matches what Case Managers RN is making if our job description is the same.

BSW/MSW            Annual Salary
Social Work               29,105.90
Social work                36,720.00
RN Case Managers   48,681.00
