It's difficult to think of the cellblock of the Alcatraz Penitentiary as beautiful, but framed by the island's lush greenery, it is just that.

No rushing for gold here: a gold miner's gloves and pan sit serenely beside the calm waters of the Sacramento River. 

A Light in the Harbor

Framed by the grey San Francisco Bay skies, the lighthouse on Alcatraz Island is one of the island's most ironically beautiful relics of its stormy history.  

The Road Ahead

The end of summer and the beginning of autumn.  Some leaves have fallen, some still cling to their branches as summer wanes into the always uncertain beginnings brought by September.
