| PARTICIPATING IN MY NEW COMMUNITY In getting to know my new home of Toronto, I am always look for ways to explore the city, meet new people and when presented with the opportunity to be outdoors, so when I read about the Toronto Trails Festival kick-off guided trail walks, I had to be there. What a bonus it was because the first walk was the Western Beaches, one of my now favourite walking and cycling places. Eighty to a hundred people showed for the event, including Mayor David Miller, fresh from his participation in one of the many Terry Fox events happending that day, so there were lots of interesting people to meet and chat with along the way. Mayor Miller started off our walk on the Humber Bay Bridge by explaining that the bridge's design was inspired by the Native American Thunderbird and as most who cross the bridge will attest, there is a very powerful yet calming feeling tht one experiences while crossing that bridge. That also probably explains why so mnay people stop on that bridge just to gaze out over the vast expanse of water before them. The free-guided trail walks fun Sundays from mid-September to late October, but unfortunately teh Saturday Yoga walsk are already booked, so better luck next time. Before completing my walk, I also ensured I had taken a few photos which I sent along to Earthroots who had notified me of the wlak. Well, they wanted the photos for their newsletter, so I thought I'd share them with you too. Perhaps I'll see you out at one of the scheduled upcoming walks, or of course, on the Waterfront Trail! |
