Chozaku was a ronin shugenja until his home was destroyed and he joined an order of shohei. He spent several years mastering the five elemental martial arts. Ran found him and persuaded him to join the Rikugan no Seifuku. Chozaku joined Ran because he believed in Ran's plan to help the empire's peasants. He is the most powerful member of the Rikugan no Seifuku. He fought Ryuken, Reiko and Saiyoko all at once and was just barely defeated (largely due to Saiyoko's healing magic). Saiyoko's Crashing Wave spell drove Chozaku through a stone wall, killing him.
