                                         David

I want to tell you David, just now special you are to me.  I have loved you since conception.  As you grew in my womb, we came to know one another.  There is a tie that can only exist between a mother and child.  You came to know my voice from the talks we had and the off key singing and rocking we did.  You were and still are a treasure to me.  As you developed and birth was near, I was so anxious to meet you face to face.  And what a meeting that was.  You looked me straight in the eyes and wrapped your little hand around my finger and knew I was your Mom.   There was no need for the bonding as we had been bonded for nine months.  I gave you the name David which means beloved because that is what you were and are.  I always called you my beautiful child.
And, what a beautiful baby you were.   As you grew, it was wondrous to watch you.  You always had a sparkle in your eyes and was more than a little mischievous.  I often had to leave the room and have a laugh at the things you would do, and then try to discipline you.  That mischievousness and sparkle were with you always.  The older you became the more fun you were.  You had a wonderful spirit and could always find the humor in most every situation.  As a teenager, I began to see the man you would become.  It was during this time you met your future wife, Rachel.  What a pair you two were.  You two were truly devoted to each other from the beginning.  That is the kind of person you are.  You give your heart fully.
Then you joined the Navy.  That was a very difficult day when I put you on the plane to send you off.  I felt part of me was being torn away.  But, the experiences you had during those three years helped you become a man.  You left a boy and came back to me as a wonderful man.
Following your marriage come three beautiful children.  What a father you were.  You were involved in all their lives fully.  You loved unconditionally and gave your all to your children.  How lucky they are to have had you for their father.  You not only fathered your children, but two nieces that needed a father badly.
When your brother Gary became ill, you came through for me.  You took him into your home and cared for him 24 hours a day.  When I tried to thank you for that, you would only say, "He was my brother".  I have tried to tell you how much that meant to me and you would only say, "What else could I have done but care for him".  You are truly a wonderful person.  You did not see that you gave more than most people would.  Again, you loved unconditionally.
When you became ill, I was devastated.  How could this happen.  You went through more than anyone should have to.  And you never complained, you worried more about your family.  As you grew weaker I felt so helpless.  There was nothing I could do to ease your pain and suffering other than be there for you.  I had always been able to heal your scrapes and bruises when you were a child with a kiss and a hug.  I still gave you the kisses and hugs, but it would no longer take the pain away.  As you began to slip away from us, I tried to tell you how much I love you and that you would always live in my heart.  For you are my beautiful child for now and forever.

                                            I love you,
                                                Mom
