Although for the most part, the people of our town keep to the immediately surrounding area, there are exceptions to every rule. This is the tale of 12 brave souls who left the confines of small-town life behind to live it up for a week in the big city. We all felt that it would be enriching to experience a slightly different culture...okay...so actually we got to hang out in New York instead of going to school for a week!

| The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree -- We saw it on our first day there, and they took it down on the second. It's big. Actually, I sort of expected it to be a little bigger, but it's huge for a potted Christmas tree! Also, it's not every day that you see a huge pine tree in the center of Manhattan. | ![]() |
| "10 Naked Men" -- This was the first show that we went to see. A group of us bought discount tickets and went into it blindly. It turned out to be an Off-Broadway show featuring ten men (yes, nude in some scenes) portraying male prostitutes and their lovers in Hollywood; it was an interesting and humorous show. Unfortunately, the other theater-goers were predominantly male, and there wasn't even a "Ladies' Room." | ![]() |
| Christopher Park -- This park in Greenwich Village is (surprise) on Christopher Street. Since it was near the subway station, we used it as a convenient meeting place for our group. Unfortunately, we soon found out that not all cab drivers know where it is, and those who do, look at you a little odd. The statue is dressed in a T-shirt that Jason bought (who knows why). | ![]() |
| Cab Drivers -- Speaking of cab drivers, during the week, we kept a tab on the names of the different drivers we had, and collected anecdotes about cab rides. We ended up with quite a collection, if I can remember them! | |
| Condomania -- This is a shop specializing in, yes, condoms. However, it also sells toys, T-shirts, and miscellaneous gag gifts. The chain has spread all over the US, and this particular store is in Greenwich Village. We don't have one where we live, so we stopped by. | ![]() |
| TV Stardom -- our search for infamy! | ![]() |
| The Blue Man Group -- The group's show Tubes was one that we actually attended en masse, and it was quite an experience. I definitely recommend seeing it if you ever have the chance. | ![]() |
| Look! Erin is Primping -- Something that most people would never expect! Erin preening herself at the mirror, so that she looks her cutest when she leaves for the day's adventure! | ![]() |
| The Soup Nazi -- Formally named, "The Soup Kitchen," this small eating establishment was the inspiration for Seinfeld's "Soup Nazi." The shop, a counter along the sidewalk, is run by an irritable proprietor, hence the Seinfeld name. There are actually posted rules outlining how not to upset the proprietor. | ![]() |
| A Day in Soho -- While half of our group went to the Statue of Liberty and such places, our half spent a day in Soho. It's a nice place to look around, but we definitley didn't have the cash to do any serious shopping. However, we did see Peter Gallagher and his family out shopping. That was kind of cool. In this picture, you could see him, but Andy's shoulder is in the way! | ![]() |
| Our hotel room -- Well, we went from pit to palace during the week, and at found a great view, much to the neighbors' dismay! | ![]() |
| The Last Night -- Amanda borrows my deck of tarot cards for a little break in the monotony of hotel life. Well, we did find other ways, but in-room movies and cards get old quickly... | ![]() |
| The 666 Mark -- This is the front page of a pamphlet that we picked up from a lady on the street corner that we all thought was rather humorous. *Please note that we do not endorse information or opinions in this document! | |
| Pudgy & Pink -- Throughout the trip, Taylor and Andy became obsessed with the magazine selections at street corner vendors, notably Big Butts Magazine. When we reached the end of the trip, we decided that it would be hilarious if someone walked off the plane with a Big Butts Magazine. Matty and I checked teh airport newsstand, but they didn't carry it, so we grabbed a copy of Pudgy & Pink, lots of large, naked women. Everyone was quite disgusted by it, but we did get this great candid shot of Mrs.K taking a peek! | ![]() |
