Community Swimming Pool |
What is the best part about summer? Is it not having to get up early to go to school, or having boring science homework. Is it the ice cream that the ice cream man brings by everyday around 3:00 in the afternoon? Maybe, it is that playing outside until eight or nine at night is vital to end the day. All of these are great, but none of them come close to the swimming pool. As a kid, I loved to swim. My friends and I would do flips off of the diving board, play marco polo, and slide down the twist slide. Everyone enjoys being out in the sun and having fun. This is why I feel our neighborhood needs a swimming pool. Children need to have somewhere to go to play and have fun during the summer. |

I understand that having a pool can be costly. If we can find someone to build the pool for around $20,000, the rest will pay for itself. I know we will still have to hire lifeguards and pool attendants. This does not have to be a big problem though. The money for the pool and all of the equipment can be taken from rent. If you raise the rent now, enough money could be saved to start building a pool within a couple of years. With the use of a concession stand and a small guest fee, we will have enough money to pay for lifeguards and pool attendants. |

If the rent is raised, everyone living here will have free access to the pool. For all of the guests that come, we will charge a small fee of no more than three dollars. This, of course, will go towards hired help. The concession stand would not really need much help. Snacks such as, drinks, chips, ice cream, and candy bars can be sold and make a profit to help what ever needs to be fixed, in or around the pool, or go towards the pay roll. Young children come in and work hard at playing and get hungry very fast. They do not just buy one item; they will usually buy two or three. They will probably come back for later. Another way to help pay for the pool and hired help is to offer swimming lessons. This is something the lifeguard can do. Every morning or every other morning open the pool up an hour earlier to give swim lesson to everyone. |

If a pool were opened, the children would have something to do during the day. They would cut down on over sleeping, over eating and would have plenty of fun physical activities. This not only helps them exercise but also brings them outdoors. There is only so much of staring at the wall one person can take. Children will become healthier and live healthier because of our swimming pool. Parents would rather see their children outside playing and socializing with friends, than sitting in the house watching cartoons. |
As seen, the community can greatly benefit from having a community pool. There will be more sense of unity among neighbors. It offers employment for both residents and nonresidents. The pool is also offering a safe and enjoyable environment for families and friends. It will help make the children and some adults healthier and live healthier. |
Everything has its costs, and everything also has its benefits. If you look at the thought of having a community swimming pool, the benefits are higher than the costs. You cannot go wrong with all positive things. No one could ask for more than health, happiness and fun in the sun. |
