Send C&C to: oddball22@hotmail.com Find my stories at: www.geocities.com/kaiphantom2000 It's a anime crossover, but I ain't tellin' ya what two series it comes from. Just consider it a means to grab your attention and make you read it. It's a shortfic, you can handle that... Anime Fanfic Crossover Meant To Be? "You're leaving." It wasn't a question or an accusation, but a simple statement of fact. He thought he detected a note of regret in her voice, but did not let it deter him. "You knew this would happen eventually," he responded, trying to keep all emotion from his voice, which was mostly successful. She nodded, but knew he didn't see it, as his back was to her. "In my heart... I guess I did, but did not want to believe it. I thought we could work against it somehow, defy fate." He gazed at the setting sun in the horizon and reflected that it wasn't too long ago when the sun had risen on that bright day, long past. She was beautiful then, and together they had held much hope and joy, thinking nothing could go wrong. "Do you... regret... our choice?" she asked him, her voice trembling almost imperceptibly. "I mean... I know the others were surprised." The ghost of a smirk flitted across her face. "I was surprised. After all that searching of finding the perfect one for me, who would of thought I'd end up with you?" He chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. "Well, I am such a handsome devil, how could you refuse?" A couch pillow bounced off his head. "Be serious, you!" she reprimanded her husband of five years as she came up behind and just to the side of him, to watch the sunset. Five wonderful years. But they had known there was a possibility of it not working out. `Too different' the others said. `Never will work out' they taunted. Well, they were shocked at first, but she knew that they would be laughing now, especially once he was gone. How could they have been right? What went wrong? "I wonder why..." she said softly. "Hmmm?" She shook her head. "I just don't get it, even after all this time, why did we get together?" There was the obvious, of course. When it was discovered she was the only sister to be able to bear children, it fell to her to produce an heir. She hadn't wanted to, naturally. But then she met the man who would later become her husband. He shrugged, not really knowing himself. "Maybe some diety above commanded it..." "Don't say that!" she nearly yelled at him, showing some of the fire that she used to possess. "I won't believe it. I can't believe it! That the only reason we're standing here, married, was because some entity above controlled us and put us together, just because you're a man and I'm a woman! That just doesn't make any sense!" He turned to look at her then, seeing her for the first time since that morning. He had wanted to leave without seeing her, knowing that if he did, he might not leave. He favored her with one of his dashing smiles, which seemed to calm her some. "You're right, of course. I don't believe it, either. Because if that was the case, it would mean that `entity' was pretty stupid. It would mean they didn't take the time to understand us." He shrugged again. "But at least we know now. We tried, and were happy for a time, but our original problems are stilll there. We're just too different. You feel the same. " Her expression softened, as she turned to watch the fiery ball descend into the horizon, now over halfway gone. "Yes. Before you leave, will you go to see A-" A hand over her mouth stopped her, and she realized her mistake. "Sorry, I did promise not to mention her while we were married." He nodded. "As I promised not to mention him. The ones who owned our hearts in the beginning." It was painful to say, and painful to hear, but it needed to be said. For an instant, the image of a young boy flashed through his mind. An excellent fighter, with a confident smile, his hair tied into a short pony tail. "Then stay with me, at least until the sun goes down," she whispered softly, her own mind recalling a short girl with dark blue hair. "Then... you can slip away in the dark, and use the device to return to your world." She stepped up beside him and took his hand. He turned with her, to watch the last of the sun set over her world, her palace outlined in a red-gold hue. "It is a beautiful world. I remember when you first arrived with your friends on my world via your near-lookalike's dimensional portal technology." He grinned. "It was quite a shock." She smiled with him. "And then I met you. Needless to say, because of who I was then, I just couldn't believe that boys like you existed." "And I couldn't believe girls like you existed, either," he replied. "You called me a `pervert', being totally disgusted with me. You were quite angry for quite awhile." "Then we had that adventure, ended back on my world, and somewhere along the line, that anger turned to love." She recalled that moment, when he was about to leave with his friends, and she'd likely never see him again. For some reason, she couldn't bear the thought of losing him, and so had asked him to stay. The heavenly ball of light finished it's descent, and darkness began to fall on the ancient land. "It's time," he intoned. They turned to face each other then, giving each other a last hug. There was still a part in each that wanted him to stay. But because of who and what they were, both knew that their relationship would soon return more and more hard feelings if it lasted much longer. Better to part on more amicable terms. "Goodbye," she whispered in his ear. "Farewell, Fatora-chan," he whispered back. He parted with her then, and left their little cottage on the palace grounds, heading across the courtyard to where Makoto would use the dimensional key to return him to his world. Princess Fatora's hand went to her chest as the man she had loved dissappeared into the darkness. "Goodbye, Hanagata Mitsuruigi, and know that I shall always care for you..." ------------------------------ Author's notes: I ain't gonna say anything, other than it was an El Hazard/Saber Marionette J crossover. If you haven't seen either of those two series, you won't understand this. Brad aka Kaiphantom www.geocities.com/kaiphantom2000
