KMB shows the way with next-stop system

                     By Grace Pang

Kowloon Motor Bus is installing a system aboard its buses that alerts passengers to prepare for he next stop well in advance.

The "on vehicle bus stop announcement system" is bilingual--in Chinese and English-- and operates with a display on both decks of its double-decker vehicle.

Route 170 buses from Sha Tin KCR Station to Wah Fu blazed the way for the new system yesterday after being in operation since Monday.

Next month, the new airport routes, A32 and A41, will begin the service. KMB plans to install the systems on other routes, including No.1A, 60 M, 86K and 88K by September. "The new system informs our passengers of the next bus stop in advance to enable them to press the stop bell at the right time", said KMB traffic manager Rui Po-chiu.

The announcement system was proposed four years ago by the Hongkong Society for the Blinds.-----excerpt from <The Hongkong Standard>, June 6, 1998.

Shanghai CanRun ElectronTech notes that the the Bus Stop Announcement system mentioned above is actually manufactured by this Company, as shown below with inboard display sign supplementing the announcement.

Shanghai CanRun ElectronTech again notes that Mr. Rui visited this company  upon the time he attended the session of UITP (L'Union International du Transport Publique) Assembly that was held in Shanghai in Oct 2002..
