How to stay ahead of the pack:
Here are a few important tips I try to live by to be a successful role player in any great organization. As the writer of these, these are the ideas I try to follow myself. I hope you like and learn from my advice, and if you don't... too bad for you.
Tip 1: Be Something New!!!
This is, and by far, the most important issue to tackle. Too many e-wrestlers look and think alike these days!! There are way too many Steve Austin and Triple X look-alikes. There is nothing wrong with that, as characters can share some points with real wrestlers, but the key to be original is to find something that will make your character STANDOUT. He must have something in his way of reacting, in his gimmick, that will set him apart from the pack. This applies not only in the character, but in the way he talks, acts, dresses, etc... Try to find some cool quotes that only your guy will say. No matter if your wrestler is inspired from a real one or if he's purely created, make sure he does have that touch of originality, something that only he will have, that will make him special. Something that will make him yours!!
Tip 2: Be Real and Honest!!!
Too many people want their guys to be perfect, almost like they were GODS!!!! The problem is those people never want to admit they can have flaws. The truth is, nobody's perfect, even though everybody would want to be. This is one way to be original and unique, as well. You must look at your characters' personalities from both sides. Of course, a wrestler's weakness can be used against him, but the simple fact you do admit your weaknesses also gives you an extra push with the federation head, as that's the essence of role playing. Don't fear to admit your character's flaws, because it will make him only more interesting and it will also highlight his strengths.
Tip 3: Role-play????
"First of all, let us discuss what a role-play is. A role-play is NOT just an interview or a flash. In a role-play, you take on a ROLE! Just like in a play. Every flash or interview is not a role-play. If you aren't playing a role that stays consistent throughout that wrestler's career, then you are not role-playing. You are flashing or you are just interviewing. They aren't the same. True, a wrestler can change their "gimmick." But even then, he must stay consistent within whatever new role he is playing to be considered a true role-play. For example, a wrestler who is one time outspoken and another time very withdrawn is not truly a proper role-play -- unless inconsistency is part of his role. The trick is to keep whatever "gimmick" your wrestler has going in one streek, that is until you need or want to change it.
Tip 4 :Role-play Hints
STAY IN CHARACTER : Nothing is worse than a wrestler that can not stay in character during a role-play or one who stays in character on the out or character times. Learn to control both sides!!!!!!
SWEARING : Sometime, and I mean SOMETIMES you may feel that your wrestler need to vent his words in a little bit of obscenities! Whatever you do DO NOT USE THE FULL WORD!! Use this method, F**k / Sh*t, P**sy, and so on. And remember that swearing is not always needed for a good role-play.
HTML AND OTHER STUFF: This is a touchy subject to some e-wrestlers. Although it is not needed for a really great role-play, it can help. A simple Italics and bold html is good! Color can be good if not over used, and so can other things. just remember what I have already said. WHO CARES?!?!?! HTML does not make a role-play, the writing does. Some of the best role play's I have read have used only italics in html. SO fancy does not mean wins!!!!!
SPELLING AND PUNCTUATION. Make sure you spell all of the words you use right. Go back and double check if needed, but just try to catch the spelling errors and typos as you write. It may not mean win or lose, but it looks sloppy if there are any!! (Besides this paper is probably not perfect either LOL!!)
Tip 5: Wrestlers Terms
E-fed- A fantasy wrestling federation, where you can pretend you are a professional wrestler.
E-Wrestler- A character, either original (like Punk N. Disorderly) or unoriginal (ManKind) used in e-feds.
Role-plays- RPs for short. Role-playing is an interview your wrestler makes in an effort to prove he's better than he's opponent.
Out of Character- OCC for short! Try not to use any OCC on the RP Board. Keep all the OOC stuff on the OCC Board!
Cards- The lineup of matches. With most e-feds, there are one or two cards a week, plus a [fake] pay per view a month. Cards usually have original names to attract viewers.
Booked- An e-fed where role-plays determine the winners. There is no luck involved in a booked fed...just role-playing ability.
Handler- The actual name/e-mail of the person that created and uses a particular wrestler.
