Kai Yu's Homepage

I am Kai Yu, a PhD student at the Database Group of Computer Science Department at the University of Munich (LMU), supervised by Prof. Hans-Peter Kriegel. My study and research are funded through a joint Ph.D program between LMU and Siemens AG. Currently I am doing my research with Anton Schwaighofer, directed by Dr. Volker Tresp, at Siemens Corporate Technology. My research is mainly focused on statistical machine learning and its applications to information filtering, image retrieval and medical data analysis. I received the B.Sc and M.Sc degrees both in electrical engineering from Nanjing University, China, in 1998 and 2000 respectively. For more information about my research, please take a look at my homepage at University of Munich

Dear visitors, please take a few minutes to attend an online survey about your preferences for painting images. Thanks!

Art Image Retrieval

In this research, we wish to demonstrate that artificial intelligence technology can do a fancy job to help people enjoy the beauty of art paintings!

  • The proposal was raised in Aug. 2002 when I visited Dr. Wei-Ying Ma and Dr. Hong-Jiang Zhang at Microsoft Research Asia at Beijing.
  • As an important part of this research, we need to accumulate many users' opinions, i.e. like or dislike, on a set of 642 painting images. Therefore we need your kind help to attend an online survey, in which we will randomly present some art images to you and you just need to click 'like' or 'dislike' according to your opinions. Thanks to Ms. Zhao Xu and Mr. Franz Krojer's help, now the on-line survey is open! [enter] new!
  • Survey is not the end. Currently we are building a web-based art image retrieval system, which can help you find your favorite art images once you provide several liked or disliked images. And we also plan to include more art images in the near future. So, many interesting things are up-coming.....
  • All the images we presented here are purely for scientific research purpose. Any download for profitable purpose is not allowed.
