| Don Owens was a Scout in Jacksonville, Florida and became an Eagle Scout. Upon moving to Longwood in 1973, he took over a dying Troop 234 with a membership of 6 or so boys. Within a couple of years, the troop had a membership of over 30 boys. Don retired as Scoutmaster in 1979, but continued as one of the leaders of the troop. When Troop 46 was established in 1982, he joined Win and Keith as one of the founders of the troop. He served as the first committee chairman. Don remained active with the troop, even though his health restricted his activities and was instrumental in the establishment of Ship 46 in the mid 1990's. Don died in 1998. He was an Eagle Scout and holder of the District Award of Merit. |
