TRIP TO PHILIPPINES
Dinagyang 2005

Vanessa Taylor, Philippine Princess 2004 traveled to the Philippines with her mum, Marie to attend the Dinagyang 2005 in Iloilo City as her major prize for winning the Quest. With them were Kahirup members Vilma Evain, Ging Lopez and Lorna Crussell.
Mr. Filoteo Palmares, director of the Iloilo Development Centre Foundation, Inc., arranged and facilitated Vanessa’s participation in the Dinagyang Parade, meetings with Philippine Tourism (Region VI) Director Trompeta, Iloilo Governor Neil Tupas and Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas. The delegation also visited the Central Philippine University (CPU) President, Dr. Juanito Acanto, and attended the CPU International Night where Vanessa performed a dance number. CPU also gave Vanessa an opportunity to sit in a first year high school class. After the Dinagyang Festival, Ging and Vilma headed to Bacolod City to hand in donation to Dr. Miguel Sarabia for the Cataract Appeal.

















 

CHRISTMAS DINNER DANCE PARTY

Kahirup held its first Christmas dinner dance party at East Leagues Club, Coorparoo on 25 November 2005.  Attended by around 180 people, the party was hosted by Philippine Princess 2004 Vanessa Taylor. 

An induction of the new officers also took place, officiated by Kahirup first President, Mauro Somodio.

It has been decided by the members that the Philippine Princess of Queensland Quest and the dinner dance party will be held alternately from now on.

Celebrating the 10th year of Kahirup

2006 is going to a special year because it marks the 10 the anniversary of Kahirup.  It was ten years ago, on 30 September 1996 when Kahirup was informally organised.  Its first officers were elected a year later, on 7 December 1997.   The drafting of its constitution followed, and in 1997, it was formally incorporated.
