Chapter 11
Lucius
My lovely young ones accompanied me for miles, Sven leading the way. Remy and his human companion Demetria, Sven’s sister, were seated in a restaurant talking feverishly in the dim glow of the overhead lamps. We didn’t rush them, didn’t interrupt their conversation although I could tell that Sven was getting impatient, he wanted to speak with his sister. Cian leaned against the wall, detached from what was going on. When they finished they left the room, signaling that it was our time to act. I opened the door on well-oiled hinges and we walked inside.
“Hello Remy.” I said with a smile.
He turned quickly to face us, shielding Demetria with his body. Sven stepped beside me, “Demetria.” He said softly, “Why do you follow him, why do you serve him?”
She stepped out from behind Remy and for a moment was silent, “Because,” She paused, “because I love him.”
Sven looked taken aback, “You love him? If you love him so much why don’t you stop him? Why do you let him kill? You know that you will have to kill me now as well if you want to destroy us all. Why Demetria? Why? What made you want to destroy us?”
She was silent, she didn’t have an answer to his questions, “I don’t have the answers you seek.” She whispered, “What do you want me to say? I will tell you this though, I wish that you had been taken by that damned disease.”
He frowned, “It didn’t, you can see that. I live, I am happy. Can’t you be happy for me?”
She shook her head, “No, I can’t. You are now a killer, a creature that is no longer my brother.”
Remy, Cian, and I stood looking at each other, waiting for the siblings to finish their conversation. Cian closed his eyes, ignoring the events that were transpiring, ever since I had told him that he could not leave me he had began to sink into depression. He didn’t understand that I wouldn’t make him remain with me forever; I would never do that to him.
“I will not give you the chance to kill me.” Sven said softly, breaking me from my thoughts.
She shook her head, “The only way you could do that is to kill me, would you prove me right and kill your own sister?”
He smiled, “I won’t be proving you right, especially not if you attempted to kill me first. I would be defending myself. Sure, the outcome would be the same, but that can’t be helped.”
Her eyes grew wide, “Sven.” She whispered, “I’m sorry that you must die.”
“I’ve already died once, Lucius tells me that in a day or two I shall die again.”
I sighed, “Sven, I believe that is enough.” I said before turning back to Remy, “Shall we end this?”
Remy smiled, “Yes, I think that would be the best idea, I’m sure that if you do what I believe that you are going to then Demetria and Sven will have plenty of time discuss their differences.”
I laughed, “I have no intention of doing anything to her. Sven will have the chance to kill her if he pleases. It is his choice, not mine.” I smiled, “Cian, keep Sven under your wing while I destroy this…traitor.”
Cian smiled, “Of course, I said that I would and now I shall.” He said as he laid a hand on Sven’s shoulder and pulled him back.
I smiled at Remy, “Are you prepared for death? Morning is on its way and you know that you cannot withstand the sun. Shall you go quietly or will I be forced to throw you outside?”
Remy bowed his head, “I don’t know what to do.” He said softly, “I planed to end this once I had destroyed you and the others but it doesn’t look like that shall be possible so I shall allow you to end this for me. I shall go into the sun on my own.”
I opened the door for him and waited for him to step through. With head bowed he walked through the opening. Demetria looked sad, tears began to fall from her eyes. Slowly she sat down and buried her face in her hands. Once Remy was outside I closed the door, sealing us away from the sun. There were no sounds as the sun made its ascent into the sky.
“What are you going to do with me?” Demetria asked softly from her place on the floor.
I smiled, “Sven, what do you wish to do with her? Do you want her to die or join us? If she joined us there may be a problem, she may wish to kill us. It is your decision as to her fate.”
Sven bit his lip as he made his decision. Cian stood behind him, waiting for him to speak. Sven looked over at her, “I shall kill her myself.”
Demetria looked up at him, “If you are going to kill me do it now. I shall join Remy in death.”
“Get up.” Sven said softly.
Slowly she got to her feet. Sven smiled as he took her in his arms. Gently he brushed her hair away from her neck. I watched in approval as he sank his teeth into her soft flesh. She let out a soft cry of pleasure as she began to die. He dropped her corpse onto the floor before turning away. I laid a hand on his shoulder before leading him into an adjoining room to sleep. Cian curled up in a chair while Sven took off his jacket, bundled himself up, and curled up in a corner. Once they were both asleep I picked up Demetria’s corpse and went to look for a place to bury her. Perhaps I should just send her home, but then I would have to ask Sven where he used to live. I didn’t want to remind him of what he had done, I don’t think he knew exactly what he had done and I didn’t want to tell him. He would have to come to the realization himself and deal with the knowledge that he had killed his sister. Sighing I found an abandoned building where there were some loose stones. Here I buried her then replaced the stones before returning to the restaurant where they were sleeping. I would wait for them to awaken and get a little sleep myself.
