Muller - Still carries his textbooks , dreams of examinations, and during a bombardment utters propositions in physics (P. 3). He hasn't really changed into a soldier.
TJaden - He eats a lot but is really skinny.
Paul Baumer - Paul is a narrarator. He feels like the war has wasted his life. Kat is his best friend.
Albert Kropp - He is a clear thinker and is very clever. He is an excellent soldier.
Leer - Leer had a full beard and had a preference for the girls from officers' brothels (P. 3). He was the first boy in the class to have sex.
Franz - He is nineteen years old and is dying in pain. He should'nt of been in the war.
Haie Westhus - Peat digger. He is a large man who is very strong. He doesn't see the army as a very bad thing. When the war is over he wants to stick around in the army.
Detering - He is a peasant who is a farmer. He has a wife and children and is very worried about them because they have to take care of the farm.
Kantarek - He is the school master who encourages the kids to go to war. He betrays them.
Corporal Himmelstoss - Corporal Himmelstoss had the reputation of being the strictest disciplinarian in the camp, and was proud of it. (P .3) Himmelstoss is extremely cruel to his recruits, forcing them to obey ridiculous and dangerous orders simply because he enjoys bullying them.
