Two hen feathers glued together with Softex (Light on bottom and dark on top)
Rattle Size small

Shellback Raffia color to match area crayfish
Abdomen Rust colored dubbing (Ron Lucas) Synthetic
Legs Hackle to match color
Tail Dubbing Lighter Color

Tying Directions:

  1. Mount the hook in normal position and thread to hook bend
  2. Tie in the Rattle, wrapping well. Super glue helps hold rattle from turning.
  3. Tie in lead wire for weight and wrap well, ¾+ to eye, tie off and super glue.
  4. Remount hook upside down and tie in Raffia, and feelers. Figure 8 and super glue.
  5. Begin dubbing small section in front of eye placement.
  6. Tie in Eyes and glue.
  7. Tie in wire, then hackle and continue to dub until just past rattle point.
  8. Wrap hackle back and tie off.
  9. Wrap wire through hackle for strength.
  10. Pull raffia over eyes and hackle and wrap wire twice over raffia to secure.
  11. Pull wire and raffia back to the material clip and continue dubbing with lighter dubbing. (Little material and many wraps help to pick out tail.)
  12. Wrap dubbing to eye and tie off.
  13. Pull raffia over tail and tie off.
  14. Wrap wire over raffia and tie off. Whip finish and super glue.
  15. Trim raffia tail and flare.
  16. Adjust colors with markers and pick out tail sections.
