Tying Directions:
- First put the cone on the hook. Tie on your thread.
- Tie in the yarn fairly close to the cone. Use the yarn to build a body
that tapers down to the end of the hook (much cheaper than layering the poly
flash). Tie off the yarn so it is on the top off the hook and clip.
- Tie in the poly flash and wrap to the front. You need to leave enough room
for the head but not too much.
- Measure the bunny strip to the hook. It should go to the bend. Cut a V
shape on the back of the bunny strip and tie in. It helps to get it a little
wet with some water or spit. Put a couple of drops of head cement above the
strip to secure it forever.
- Prepare your deer hair by taking out the guard hairs and stacking (I use
comparadun deer hair because it is a lot better quality). Place the deer
hair on the top of the hook putting the tips about the middle of the hook.
Spin it evenly around the hook. Make it so the deer hair goes underneath the
cone and flares back nicely. Tie it off. I like to clip the deer hair first
on the bottom and then the top. On the sides I cut V shapes to give the head
more bulk and so it pushes water.
Notes:
I like this fly a lot. It is not weighted except for the cone. It rides 6
inches to a foot under the surface. On a nice calm day you can watch it as you
retrieve it. This is very exciting because you get to see the take. It is also
important to know that you can tie this fly in any color combination imaginable.
