Hook: Mustad 9671, size 8
Antenna: Pheasant tail fibers
Shellback: Pheasant tail fibers
Underbody: Back 1/3, two layers of .025 lead
Body: Brown chenille
Rib: Gold wire
Claws: Golden pheasant tippet
Tail: Pheasant tail

Tying Directions:

  1. Start your thread just above the hook point.
  2. Tie in about 6 Pheasant tail fibers (about hook length).
  3. Tie in a full length of lead on top of the hook shank, leaving the tag end at the rear of the hook, wrap lead over the back third and tie it down, then tie your lead in again over the first layer of lead, build up a ramp on both sides with thread.
  4. Tie in your chenille and Pheasant shellback.
  5. Wrap the chenille forward to the end of the lead and tie it down (but don't cut it off).
  6. Draw your shellback forward and tie it down as close to the chenille as possible (don't cut it off).
  7. Tie in your wire rib.
  8. Wrap the chenille forward and tie off and trim.
  9. Bring your shellback forward and tie it off, pointing the remainder of the fibers up. Trim at about 3/8".
  10. Wrap the rib forward to hold the mess together and tie off and trim. Cement and you are done.
