Michael William's "Michael T's Maracraw"

Hook: 6XL streamer
Thread: Brown
Weight: .025 wire and 5/32" I-Balz
Tail: Brown Marabou
Ribbing: Medium copper wire
Legs: Medium orange round rubber strands
Hackle: Furnace
Body: (rear half) Large brown chenille
(front half) Small or Medium orange and black variegated chenille
Front Fin: Brown marabou clump

Tying Directions:

  1. Wrap wire weight on front half of hook, leaving space at the head for I-Balz and marabou fin. Bind wire with thread and cement.
  2. Tie on marabou tail at the bend of hook. Tail is length of hook shank.
  3. Attach copper wire at base of tail.
  4. Tie in 2 sets of rubber legs. Grasp mid points of legs (one pair at a time) and lay legs parallel with hook shank. Bind with thread.
  5. Tie in large chenille at mid shank. Wind chenille tightly back to hook bend --- then up to mid shank, positioning legs and building thick body in the process.
  6. Attach a long hackle at mid shank. Palmer over chenille and through legs to hook bend. Bind hackle and strengthen body by counter wrapping wire back to mid shank. Clip excess wire and hackle.
  7. Tie in variegated chenille at mid shank and wrap snugly to near the hook eye --- covering wire weight. Build thread base and attach I-Balz with secure figure 8 wraps.
  8. Tie in clump of marabou, binding for and aft of I-Balz. Trim forward portion to represent fin. Leave short clump behind I-Balz. Cement.
