Here's a crayfish pattern I'd like to share so other fly fishermen can benefit from its use. As you can see, the pattern is quick and inexpensive to tie. It has been a real fish catcher for friends, and for me. I tie little ones to fish fast currents. The medium ones with ostrich antennae and brown hackle are my favorite, whether I strip them or crawl them near the bottom, letting the antennae work in the current. Large ones can have mallard-flank pincers or squirrel tail pincers. You can also split a strip of Furry Foam to make pincers. These flies have caught whitefish, all kinds of panfish, pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, and brook and rainbow trout in lakes.
Let the furry foam soak up water before using or it will float. Simply dunk it in the river and squeeze it a couple of times.
