Bud Crager's "Ice Dub Carrot Nymph"

Hook: Heavy wire, regular shank to 1X long sizes 8 - 14
Thread: Orange 6/0 (black looks good too)
Tag: Holographic gold tinsel
Body: Orange Ice Dub (the original pattern calls for wool yarn)
Hackle: Gray or brown partridge

Tying Directions:

  1. Tie in the thread.
  2. Tie in tinsel and wrap to the hook bend.
  3. Wrap tag 3-5 turns down hook bend.
  4. Build a football shaped under body with thread.
  5. Rope dub an ice dub body. Instructions can be found at the Virtual Flybox.
  6. Tie in and wrap soft hackle.
  7. Build head with thread and whip finish.

Notes:

Experiment with different colors. I have found that after catching a few out of a school they tend to slow down and sometimes changing the color will do the trick.
