Tying Directions:
- Tie in orange thread and a single strand of orange floss. Lay your base
over the floss back to the hook bend, then tie in the gold wire and wrap
back to the eye position (approximately 1/8" behind the hook eye).
- Wrap the floss forward to the eye position and tie off. Rib it with the
gold wire/tinsel and tie off. When you tie this, you can skip the floss and
just use your thread to build up the body. I find that I can lay a flatter,
smoother body with the floss. You can also dub the body with orange hare's
mask blend or orange opossum. (I have not noticed a difference between the
two, floss or dubbing, as far s the fish, but I think the dubbed body looks
bigger and juicier.)
- Tie in the bead chain eyes. If you are using a thread or floss body, you
will now want to whip finish, then coat the body and thread wraps around the
eyes with 5-minute epoxy. If you are using a dubbed body, go to step 4.
- Invert the hook in the vise. Tie in the yellow marabou behind the eyes. On
top of the yellow, tie in the orange marabou, wrapping forward over the
eyes. The wing should extend about one hook's length past the hook bend.
Build up a head with the thread, whip finish, and apply a generous amount of
head cement.
Notes:
When completed, this fly will resemble a miniature Clouser Minnow. The bead
chain eyes cause it to ride hook-point up and it's marabou wing gives it a lot
of action.
