My place
Sarah Rooney

Most people in life have that one place,
this one certain place or many with the same theme.
This place is one where they are completely at peace,
Or if not at peace they are working at finding it.
Well I have this one kind of place that I find all along the coast.
From it I watch the waves crash along rocks,
they creep closer to you or farther depending on the tide.
You can look beyond and see only where the ocean meets the sky,
Or perhaps a distant island stands in your view,
or just some houses across the bay lit up at night.
The only sounds are the birds flying above,
the crickets chirping ,
the wind moving at all speeds past my ears,
the water fighting to push the rocks out of its way,
the distant sounds of boats letting everyone know they are around
and the sound of the close by boats knocking against the docks they are confined to.
Your taste and smell picks up the saltwater spray in the air.
I could never live away from this.
I think it's a factor of my life that keeps me what I figure is sane.
What could be better than this?
Nothing in my view,
except, sharing this with one other person in my life.
Sitting with this person,
warm within their arms.
Hearing their breathing and heart beat
along with the ocean sounds.
Smelling the faint scent of the salt water mixed with their cologne.
Seeing the sun fall slowly to the other side,
and the water ripple from the aquatic life below.
Staying there until we can just make it back home,
Or till the sun climbs up to greet us,
pushing the shadows into hiding.
Now nothing could be better than that.
Nothing at all.
