Bonjour! Welcome to those of you who don't speak a word of french. I have devoted this website to my favorite place in the world besides my hometown. France where I left my heart and someday I will go back to reclaim it. France is a land rich in history, customs and wonderful food. My ancestors once lived in France around 1360 in Poitier. I haven't had the chance to visit there but I am sure it has changed much since my family roamed its country side. Well with no futher delay enjoy these beautiful pictures, of what history has built for our pleasure.
In the Loire Valley rest a castle that puts all castles to shame. It has 365 fireplaces. can you imagine the how angry a chimney sweep would be after finding out that he had to clean all of the fireplaces. That isn't the only thing Chambord is famous for. Michelangelo used his workman skills to build a double helix staircase that still stands today.
another aspect of the castle which is unique is the look out tower for the ladies of the house waiting for their men to get home from a hunt trip or war.
Here is the view off the roof looking towards the moat that never made it around the castle. I guess it works better as a nice man made pond. This is such a pretty view. The architecture is gorgeous.
Le Chateau de Chambord
Usse le Chateau de la Belle au Bois dromant
Palace de Versailles
The castle of Usse is where the inspiration for the story "Sleeping Beauty" came from. It is still owned by a descendent of the royal family that built it. It is smaller than Chambord but it is decorated more elabrolately with faux painted marble walls and clothing from the period when the monarchy still existed. I fondly remember someone setting off the alram when we were in the castle. Nice going Steve Meringolo.
Centre Commercial de les Halles
Le Cathedrale de Chartres
Versailles is the place where the WWII Treaty of Versailles was sign to end war and spread peace. The Versailles Palace was home to King Louis XIII, XIV and Marie Antoinette. Inside the palace are the hall of mirrors, a chapel, a grand theater and many more rooms to house many people that moved from Paris to Versailles during the reign of King Louis XIV. It just happened to snow right after me and Bobbi started fighting so we took a break and took a few pictures. Love you Bobbi
Chartres is known for its beautiful blue stained glass. All of the rose windows were removed during the WWI and WWII. This Cathedral also has style of Gothic and Romanesque spires due to the destruction of one of them. A fond memory I have in Chartres is when Kyle, Steve, and I went and bought Madame Watson a licsence plate that was being sold out of the back of a white van.
Les Halles is a shopping mall that decends three floors into the ground. It includes my favorite french store called Celio* . I remember feeding the pigeons and pissing the french people off while they were eating their lunch. Beer at Macdo. What?
