a sutra

hundreds of thousands of miles
from here
there is a land called Paradise
and there everyone lives
in the Truth

Seven shining jewels
In luminescent pools
I dreamt I walked upon
The golden sand
Once more, the Great Wheel turns.

I should have known
I should have seen
The beauty I cherished
Was just a mirage
Each lotus blossom
Grows only from filth
No matter how pure it seems.

Heavenly music fills the air
-fills my soul-
and flower petals rain from
the sky, each morning is bright
and clear.

I feel enlightened
Filled to the brim
With measureless, limitless
Virtue.
Once more, the Great Wheel spins.

I should have known
I should have seen
The beauty I cherished
Was just a mirage
Each lotus blossom
Grows only from filth
No matter how pure it seems.

In every place, auspicious clouds appear,
Our pure intentions thus fulfilling
All Buddhas show their perfect bodies.

[I bow my head
I take refuge
I make this solemn vow]

I should have known
I should have seen
The beauty I cherished
Was just a mirage
Each lotus blossom
Grows only from filth
No matter how pure it seems.

Each lotus blossom
Grows only from filth
No matter how pure it seems.

Form does not differ from Emptiness
Emptiness does not differ from Form.
