| OMG!! THERE'S SUNSHINE IN THIS CITY!!! Lindsey and I could hardly believe it, so we took pictures of the sky. *sighs* apparently, you can put a dork in London, but you can never take the dorkiness away. I learned that this computer accepts creditcards...oh no....dangerous...but at least I can work on my journal and talk to everyone in peace (and time!) Lindsey and I walked our asses off today. We went to Harrods this morning, which one of our (new) roomates described as a giant museum...looking, no touching, unimaginably expensive. And no pictures. Then Lindsey and I wandered around the area for a while and ended up at the Victoria and Albert Art Museum, so we wandered around in there, quite pleased with our fun little find! Right next door is the London Science and Natural History Museum, we took pictures of the outside. It looks like a giant cathedral, as do all the museums here, and puts our puny one in Denver to shame in everything but Dinosaur bones and geology. Then we hopped the Tube over to the British Museum.....*shivers in delight*. We started with Egypt, as do all people, and looked at minor trifles in Egyptology such as the Rosetta Stone and the bust of Ramses II from Abu Simbel. Yay!! Then we wandered around the ancient Greek and Roman exhibits, including pieces of the Parthenon, and some beautiful Myan pieces in the Americas exhibit. The rest of the American exhibit explains why the people over here have such a funny view of Americans...all they have are Cowboy and Indian stuff. Oh, but the best part of all..they have a reading room that must be 100 meters wide, its a giant circle, right in the center of the British Museum, and it raises up three stories of books, then another three or four into a dome. its all encompassed inside the center atrium of the museum though, and THEN there's a restaurant on the top floor (outside of the book room) too. Its all white granite and blue glass...I took pictures, and bought a postcard, because I'm sure the pictures can't do it justice. Then we walked ourselves home, and I must say, I'm thoroughly and completely exhausted. I think its going to be a tame new years for me! The clubs are all charging 100 plus cover fees (thats about 200 American) so we're not going there. The bar at the hostel is having a party for 14, but that's still kinda pricey, since I was trying to see London for a week on 100. But maybe if I get really bored and adventerous I'll go. Lindsey and I are going to stand on the roof and watch the fireworks at Trafalger Square, which is only two or three blocks away. We'd go down, but it was crazy when we went through on the Lube, so I dont think we want to be there, somehow. There are thousands of Japanese tourists here, they're fun to listen to but they're always in the way and walking in front of people and cutting, then feigning to not understand what you're saying. OK maybe they DONT understand, but still. And we met two other people here from Colorado tonight, one goes to CU and they're both from Co Springs. Small world! You know its funny, I've only met a few people with british accents, and most of them are my new roomies. The staff here are all American or European, the workers at the shops and delis and supermarkets and such are all Indian or Mid-Eastern, with heavy arabic accents. I guess that shouldn't surprise me but it does. I guess they're like Colorado's Mexican population. It sounds like everyone is doing well, and for that I'm glad. I dont have time to email everyone tonight, so I'll say hello and goodnight, godbless...on here. Cheers! |
