My Journal
Today I learned the wonders of The Tube. Not as we say it, mind you, its the "teeyooooooooobah". Anyway, the London Underground is my new best friend.

Lindsey and I worked our way across London to the American Embassy this morning, but not after our share of adventure this morning at the hostel.  Remember the "nice roomates??" Yeah. Loud. Noise. Drunk. And missing. No, really...one sister woke up this morning, after an evening of drunken wandering back and forth, in and out and waking the rest of us up,  screaming that her sister was missing, which indeed she was. It spiraled downhill from there, including threats against the staff member said missing sister was found with; allegations of rape and drugging; calls to the London Police, and eventually the involvement of the American Embassy. Note, the Embassy only stepped in when the Police refused to take a report and the staff threatened to eject the girls if they didnt, quote, "tone it down". SO! Mental note to self- no drinking in the bars round here, not safe.

Anyway, so I was down here for a whlie working on planning our Day in London, and met a nice girl from Australia, who used to work at this hostel and is here visiting.  I also met a family staying here (grandma, mom, and daughter), she's also a history major. So I passed a breakfast of tea and toast very nicely, since I'd expected to be dining alone. (Lindsey was sleeping...as usual for the morning!)

So we finally arrived at the American Embassy, conspicuous for its ugliness and the concrete barriers surrounding it, and the marines in black with large guns on the roof.  We were going to register, but the line was longer than the hours posted would accomidate, so we'll try again tomorrow.  We wandered around some park starting with a G, and yes its very famous. I'll remember in a moment.  The park is dedicated to the United States and the memory of the Americans who have most assisted the United Kingdom in times of need. Eisenhower stands watch on the corner just outside the Embassy, and FDR is elevated in a british walking coat, surrounded by roses, and down the pavillion flying towards his arm is the American Eagle.  On the adjacent side between FDR and the Eagle is a beautiful memorial for September 11.   I  snuck in a few pictures.

Then we went to see Lord of the Rings, after wandering around Hyde Park and admiring the large marble arch of little or no interest.  But that, and the Tube, is really all the sightseeing we got in.  Thats ok though, I think its good to take a day to get orientated with the city...and I really need to get Lindsey out of the hostel before 11am next time. Anyway, I suppose I'm done for now, mostly because I'm out of space. Cheers!
