And now, for an update:
Hah! Bet you thought I'd never get around to updating this sucker, didn't ya? hehe, well, you were WRONG! I just needed someplace where I have the nearly impossible combination of a computer with fast internet, sufficient amounts of time, and a non-screwball (or ancient) browser. So, here I be!
I am currently in Munich, Germany, and only ten days remain before I head back to London and then to the States. Mostly I am excited, both for the upcoming ten days, and to be home. I'm only a little sad...the way I see it, when I get home I will drive everyone nuts talking about Europe, so I might as well drive Europe nuts talking about home!
We spent the last three days in Austria...two in Vienna and one in Salzburgh. Austria is, undoubtedly, the most beautiful country outside of my own that I have ever been blessed enough to see. The mountains are tall and snowcapped, the hills are rich and green like velvet (and blissfully free of singing nuns-turned-governesses) and the people are very kind. The towns are the first I have seen that look like I expected from the years of history book pictures-- little chalet houses painted white with brown edges and lots of wooden lace, like so many giant coocoo clocks stacked neatly into the hillsides. Oh, and is it clean! I have never seen such a clean country- the streets and sidewalks were completely free from litter of any kind, no stains marked the concrete and I felt just as sanitary sitting on a parkinglot tarmac as on a chair in a fine restaurant. I consumed Sacher-Torte..the finest chocolate cake in all of Austria...and it was worth every penny. If I could bring some home I would, but stupid customs with ther "no food" ban goin on right now...grr!
So like I said, now we are in Munich, today is our information gathering day since I don't have any guidebook resources for this city. Rick Steves, you let me down! No Munich in your "Best of Europe" book! *gasp*! Shame! But I'll get over it...and just a quick plug..that man has saved our ass (and pocket book) several times, and I will henceforth highly recommend his tourbooks to one and all.
Shameless plug done, we have decided to tour Dachau tomorrow and Neuenschwanstein on Wednesday. Mishka is coming on Thursday *yay!!* and we're trying to persuade her to visit Berlin with us, since we head up there on Friday. I forsee lots of beer drinking for Mishka and I on Thursday night, which means fun pictures for Lindsey...after all, one cannot see Munich without a tour through the Hofbrauhaus!
Although I have lots more to fill this journal with, thats all I have to write about for today, so I am going to quit now, and work on updating some other sections...since I have three countries to work from, I am sure I can find some material somewhere.
Cheers! |
