The Return of Persephone and Cassandra
I deliberately avoided putting in entries for the last week. Now, before I get any comments, second hand or not, about me not updating wasting people's time (ahem-- you know who you are) I did this for the good of the reader, not the good of myself. I've been horribly depressed the last week and I figured no one really wanted to hear about how miserable and lonely and rainy and depressing and pathetic and wasteful this trip is, because we all know that none of those (except maybe rainy) is true. We also know that one good day of sunshine cures Cass of most ills, and I have also moved into the upswing of the travel psyche. (Seriously--we learned about this in school. People who go abroad for a long time go through a period of building excitement which peaks, then dumps waay down into depression and then builds back up, then dumps, albeit less seriously, again when they return home. fascinating.) Anyway. I'm over it and so shall regain my updating. I'm also actually DOING stuff again, which means I have stuff to write about!!
I have new pictures up-- lots of the city, lots of life in general. I think I'll temporarily hide all of my non-europe pictures from view, so that its easier to see what's going on. And check back into folders that you think you've seen before, because sometimes I get new photos of old events (like the Burns Supper) and I add them. I'm more likely to be in other people's photos (which makes sense) so there's an added incentive for you.
I make a weekly trip to a new coffee shop each Wednesday, where I order myself espressoey goodness and write postcards to people. This is a fabulous idea, everyone should try it! Today I mused about the attractiveness of the coffee culture. Really, it doesnt make sense. People sit around in these cafes, sipping overpriced bittered water and ground up beans which holds absolutely no nutritional value, trying to look poetic or artistic or chic or something. And we love it! We suck completely into the idea that is what we can be, can do. Amazing. I should start a business here.
For the Greek Mythologically Challanged amongst us- the title refers not only to the return of my good mood, but the return of Spring. There are literally millions of crocusus and daffodils and snowdrops beginning to bloom, poking their little heads up from the grass and pinechips and even cobbelstones. I can't wait until they open up, to see the millions of colors I'm just sure are hiding right below the lips of those beautiful little buds. It is a positive epidemic of blossoms, such brave, tenacious little flowers, defiant of cold and misery. I think you shall see many pictures of this, should you choose.
We're going to Glasgow this weekend to see the art gallaries, and back to Loch Lomond, so I can take some pictures of it this time. I'm really excited about that- and I hope the weather behaves!! Its supposed to rain or snow...bleh...so we shall see. Speaking of snow related paraphenalia...there are the most fabulous boots here ever. They are Link boots! Ankle, calf, or knee high slouchy notions of leather and metal buckles, they really look like they've stepped from the video game, and how I covet a pair. They come in tan, black, red, and pink...!! Ah, and I've restrained myself masterfully thus far, mostly because I can't decide which one I want. I don't NEED new boots (or do I, hmmm) but they're really awesome. Just gotta get that off my chest, lol.
Righto, I still have errands to run, so I'm going to wrap up. After tonight, I will post the final schedule of where Lindsey and I will be during April, if any of you desire said information.
