One small comment from Cass, one giant reaction from Edinburgh Profs:
Triumph! Deceit! Revenge! FREEDOM!!
Or something like that. So I bounded out of class and up to the computer lab today, fully expecting one of two things: A great celebration, or a great battle, because today is the day we're supposed to have access to the damn internet in our rooms. So I opened my email and there...was....nothing. Damn. So I grabbed my face paint, steriotyped up some warriors, and fired of a vicously polite email to the ResNet coordinator. She replied...that indeed, we had been hooked up on Friday, and should have booklets in our mailboxes on how to proceed.
Hmm. Now I'm glad I learned polite viciousness. And can I just put it on the books, that as much as I've complained about ResNet, Mrs. Susan Ward the coordinator has been nothing but helpful, so I do not blame her in the slightest.
At any rate, it seems that a small triumph has been won, and I'm not the only one with a bit of a temper around here either. For you see, today in history, our deceptively docile professor was quite vicious, first to us, and then towards the aforementioned LitLady of Dispair. Ah, to begin at the beginning!
Class began with an overview of last weeks notes- in the form of close examination of each student, each of whom were rediculed for their answers. I was told not to look at my notes, I should have them committed to memory already, so I retorted that what he was trying to say in the last lecture was a statement comparing the physical geography of Scotland to the cultural geography of the people. "Tried?!" He bellowed. "I did not TRY, I DID!" SO I replied, very sweetly, that "well, sir, thats what I DID learn, not TRIED to take notes on." And he gnashed his teeth, but moved on to question someone else. And did not redicule me again.
Now, this was quite surprising for me, for you see, our fine Dr. Collins is an elderly gentleman, though tall and clearly healthy (He led us a merry run through Edinburgh on our first day) and clearly very very intelligent and well respected. But he seemed possessing of a quiet temperment, and not inclined to conflict of difficulty. Perhaps I saw this because of his hesitance to fight about the ResNet, but then he did assist as I asked him without question...anyway, he then asked of the class about the strange arrangements made by out Literature professor, who broke the class into tiny segments meeting all at night, and interfering with one of our two daily meals. So he got all firey about that and apparently (since I dropped her class I was not there to witness) demanded she make satisfactory arrangements to the student's schedule, not her own!!
So impressive!
At any rate, the internet is supposed to be up today, so I'm off to battle with the help desk. Wish me luck, cheers! |
